I was curious as to what is the world record for the longest model train in HO, N, etc.? (i.e. 10 engines and 500 cars or something like that). I remember that Model Railroader did an article about this a number of years ago.

I remember one article a long time ago regarding setting a record at a club in the east. I think New Jersey. Thet replaced all the couplers with dummies, ran multiple engines throughout the train all wired together so they would start and stop together and had a lot of people stationed around the railroad to make sure everythingstayed on the rails. So basically it wasn't model railroading and any of these records are going to be gimmicks beyond a certain point. I have personnaly run 89 cars behind a pair of GG1's. It was all I could gather together. I didn't use slaves or pushers but did have the train start on one track and crossover and run alongside itself on a second track. Nothing broke and nothing fell over. Once we exceed what the prototype does of what value is it?

Several years ago, 700 and some odd boxcars were run behind 18 dual motored Lionel engines. I believe that this is the current world record.
