Well.... As Chairman of the board of the SLO&W and since it is Saturday, Aug. 15th. 1925. My answer would be: "What is a GE AC 6000?" Sorry I just had to say that. No offence intended, and I hope that one of the other guys can answer your question for you. I don't got no diseasals on my layout, but like to play with old anti-cue ones out at the museum. The biggest GE we got out there is all of 700hp, BTW. That is our workhorse 80 Tonner.
Oh.... Good to see the Lion back in. Hope he had a great "Vacation".
Got 1/3rd of a chicken breast out on the grill and some carrots fresh out of the garden cooking on the stove. Best check them out....

Ed - Oh boy... You got my taste buds working overtime now with that beef barley soup. I had a friend who lived next door who was a cook most of his adult life. In the winter he would make the best tasting beef barley soup I have ever had. Unfortunately, he passed away a couple of years ago, & I haven't found a new source. By the way, what did you say your street address was?

All this talk about food----tonights special was apple fed partridge, dredged in flour seasoned with Cajun spices, and fried in corn oil, with acorn squash on the side, dredged in butter with smoked seasalt and pepper.
The partridge were harvested from the side deck this afternoon, under the apple tree. The squash was a survivor of the raid made by the deer about two weeks ago, their turn is next.!!! I have one that will be invited for dinner.
Miss Daisy has been eyeing some of the goose breasts I have in the freezer to make another goose stew, she has been advised that they will be butterflyed, fried in bacon fat with dried chantrel mushrooms, and eaten with a side of corn bread baked in a iron skillet.
The last two days we have had rain and wind, rain was needed, the wind not so much. We lost power for about three hours. I have it down to waiting two hours or so, then I mumble somthing about going out to the garage to start the generator, fumble around for about 1/2 hour or so, and bingo--the power comes back on.
Tomorrow I will cut and split more of the oak tree I dropped two years ago. Burned some last night, and tonight--it makes for a hot fire, but it does feel good on the old bones.

I am still in a pretty bad shape, but I try to ignore ist. It´s getting more and more difficult not to notice it, though. It took me 30 miniutes to put a car onto the track on my layout. i just have to accept the fact I can´t handle those small things any longer. I think I best sell the stuff. If it is out of my way, it hopefully be out of my mind one day. My "career" as a model railroade has come to an end - after 54 years, that hurts!
If I were a rich man, I´d probably go for Luonel O gauge trains. I think I still can handle toy trains of that size. But I am not a rich man and there is no place you can buy them from in Germany.
Life is as it is, even if I don´t like it.

I been meaning to talk for two days, but I couldn't think about anything.
When I bought new fuses I also got a box of nails. (If you guys remembered almost every year I talked about replacing the nails on the house for hanging Christmas lights.) That will probably be done next week or earlier.
When I started Layout Construction 4 last Sunday and Monday. I think the same thing will happen when I do Layout Construction 5 tomorrow. It will be the same of more touch up sculpturamold and trying to fit and arrange the bridge. (Hoping it will be removable.)

Ricky W - Thought of you this morning as we were heading towards our railfanning spot. It was 8:45 am & we saw an east bound right under the I79 bridge & a west bound when we got to the crossing we have talked about. Was hoping you caught something while attending your conference.
The guy who gave me an estimate on fixing my chain link fence earlier in the week showed up late yesterday afternoon. Had all the posts replaced that had corroded away at ground level, & the fence is now in good shape.
And to top things off, he threw in a bonus. There was a Rose-of-Sharon bush up against the fence which had gotten wild & way too big. It had a 4" thrunk at that base, so I cut it all down & had it all piled up in the yard. The wife & I were going to cut it up into small pieces & place the pieces in leaf bags for the township to pick up, & the larger truck & limbs cut into 4 foot lengths for the garbage company to pick up. Anyway, the guy asked what I was going to do with it all, & after I told him, he said he would just throw it all on his truck & dump it at his place. He saved us a whole lot of time & work, so I added a something little extra on his check. A good day for me all around.

Will be spending the evening at my son's house celebrating his 51st. birthday today. I iomaging he will be doing something spectaculasr on the grill and his old high school buddies will be over for playing cards well into the evening. I forgot to set my alarm last night and overslept. Even forgot why I needed to set the alarm untill I climbed into the shower around 11AM this morning. I was supposed to be down at the Methodist Church taking a bunch of photos of a Scouts Eagle Project for him. I got there a few minutes after 11 and they had finished for the day.... Since the Scout lives around the corner from me I stopped there on the way home. I did get several photos of what they got done and some other people did get many photos of work in progress. So no loss I guess.
Great Movie Clips Ulrich I loved both the steamers double headed in the moiuntains and the storm one today. The stacj talk from the pair of Steamers yesterday was great when the second loco started to lean into the load! Great show!!!

I've been trying on my new cell phone, was on it before, now it doesn't like my email or password for this site all of a sudden! Calling Kalmbach was no help.
I was about to give up. So, KEN, Ive been trying to get in here, wouldn't let me. Glad you missed me though. Guess I have to exclusively access via good old fashioned computer. Which means I won't be on here as much as I could on my phone.
Well, My latest issues on my heart is that if you look at the whole picture of my health, I'm in Early Stages Heart Failure. Just what I need. I have to see the cariologist for a final confirmation of this {GP diagnosis upon full review of my overall situation} and may have to delay or suspend the cardioversion designed to restart my heart in sinus rythm on Dec 1. So..... we will see what happens next. Im on Pradaxa for the Blood thinner, need to be on it 6 weeks before the cardioversion attempt to get me out of A-fib. But the fluid in my lungs, the fluid around my heart, the fluid in my legs and ankles making it so I have trouble walking, the enlargement of my heart, A-fib and PVCs, all point to heart failure. Just what I need. Doens't hurt, but causes a lot of other troubles I don't wnat or need.
Im at work now, but it is boring at the 'tel. Hours have been cut back so I am seek an extra job for the Xmas season. {no discussion on the "X", please please please look it up on Wikipedia or other source before you scream at me For using Xmas}!
winter is not coming screaming in here, its been very nice, and mild, until the 50s and 60s of this week, even that is mild. Doesn't hurt my feelings any.

ULRICH, hope all is as well as can be, I feel your pain now, so to speak. Was it you wiht prostate cancer friend? My fahter is a survivor, went for Cryosurgery, froze all his prostate tissue and the cancer had nothing to feed on. SO it doed out. Srvivor for some 25-30 years now. I'm at the age he was when it was caught, so now maybe i luck out? Not ready for that in addition to heart failure.
well, Even though it is boring, and I'm allowed to play, dont like to fool around much at work. Just htought I'd finally try getting in here to see y'all.

I've had chicken px as a kid, and shingles as a teen {16}. I've had the zostravax, too.
I don't know if having ahd the shingles makes me more immune or less immune to it, but I;ll ask my GP about the new one, too. I CERTAINLY DON'T want to go through shingles again...it is NASTY!

Ed, could it be that simple? I am pretty sure I spoke with Joe a few years ago when the headlights first stopped working. He said taking the shell off was a pain in the ash pit and told me to send it back. Now mine is a old Blueline GE AC 6000 with the speakers in the fuel tanks. Engine showen had the speaker in the body so maybe not as easy. Guess I will find out!

LOL.... Yep, I know little about any diesel locomotive made after the 1950s. Now ask me how many articulated Camelback steamers were ever made and I can tell you. (3) I'm glad someone posted the video on removing the shell for you. Hope it is helpful.

I am up early - well, actually, not that early, as we changed our clocks back to "normal" time last night. Now I have to get used to it getting dark so early again - not my favorite time of tghe year!
We are in the midst of a bad storm again. We just hope it doewsn´t do as much damage as the one a couple of weeks ago.

It´s actually both, Ken. Having to fiddle around for half an hour to get a car on track is definitively a spoil sport. Putting the yet missing catenary up is out of question, which leaves a rather unfinished look to the layout. I still hope I can sell it. Whatever I will get out of it, will go into our "get away fund", as life is turning very rough in this country. I won´t be going deeper into this, but effectively, this country is where it was a little over 70 years ago, the only difference being a change frrom "brown" to "red".

Rainy day on the East Coast. Found an auction in the morning paper: B&O china, some ephemera and model trains from 1 scale to HO. Don't know anything about 1 scale.
Most of the train lots mention damage and missing parts and they look like they have been stored in a very dusty place for years. There is some brass mixed in with the AHM and Bachmann but I don't really know what I'm looking at. Click on view catalog:

Is it bad not to go to a co-workers funeral? My father avoided funerals and I feel the same way. Two nurses I worked with passed away last week. A day after I learned my wife needs a breast biopsy I did not feel like going to the funeral that was local. I did see a picture of 5 nurses, who attended, that I worked with for 15-20 years. Last I saw they were all beautiful women in their 30's. Three of them have not missed any meals since, if you catch my drift.

I can relate to that! Tried to stay away whenever there was a chance.
I have put up my layout for sale at Ebay, not as an auction, but as "Buy Now" for a fixed price, which I think is reasonable. Let´s wait and see how things turn out. I have a strange feeling in my stomach about it, close to going to a funeral. There is no way I can continue with it, so it might as well, go, marking the end of an era for me.

well I have spent the past three days messing with my wife's car. It will run, then if you drive it to the store, you come back out, it will crank and not start. So I put a new feul pump in it. ( not a fun job.) The new pump did not help, but it needed one anyway as the level sender unit was cracked and not showing correct gas level. When I drove it on the test drive. I could not get it restarted, so I left it a Kroger over nite. went this morning and it started right up and I drove it home. Next on my agenda for it is a new crank position sensor I feel it is failing and when it gets hot it fails completely. ( no sensor no spark) Unfortunately it as well as the spark coil packs are located on the BACK of the engine next to the firewall. Supposedly you can get to them from underneath, not so in this car as it has a different style transmission which makes it impossible to reach. I have managed to reach around behind and get it loose, but I have not got it pried out yet. ( had to break for lunch)
Good morning from the land of endless sunny days. I will take a mut for a walk in a while and go see what the show "Unreal" (never heard of it) is all about as they are at the park filming this morning. Put the kid on his plane back to Ottawa yesterday. Had lunch at a nice restaurant at the airport before he left, the only problem with doing that is the parking was as much as the lunch.
My wife messed up on the booking and he had to go back a day earlier. She forgot that arriving at 0015hrs is really the next day. So instead of arriving back on the first school day, he ended up back the day before. He paid for WIFI on the flight and wrote a huge essay on the way back, so he was all smiles when he told us he had arrived safe and sound. It was lucky his Westjet App reminded him of the flight or he would have missed it.
While he was here he got to play hockey 3 times and was still in decent shape though being a desk jockey student made him worry about that.
He also made $400.00 working one day on "Man In The High Castle". He wore the same costume he wore in the last episode he worked on and found something he had lost in the pocket.
I have been dropping by to keep up to date and collect the endless beers Ken has been providing, but have just not found time to contribute.
Having read what has been talked about with the Shingles issue, I have also had it and it was so painful, I actually had to take some time off work. That is something I rarely did. I phoned about the cost of the vaccine as I am going to get my Flu shot anyway. The Flu shot is free, however, the shingles vaccine is about $35.00
Ulrich, it would be a shame to sell your layout, can you get one of those car rerailers to help get the cars back on the track? They sit on the track while you just let the cars roll down them on to the rails. You see them a lot at train shows when guys are putting all their rolling stock on at set up. Even if you just have a train going slowly around the layout while you are sitting in the room, I find sort of hypnotic and it relaxes me.
Big Daddy I rarely go to movies anymore as I am tired of cell phones ruining the experience. Something like Star Wars or one of the other biggies will make me still go, but I am pretty picky about what I see in a theatre these days. I use to go to a lot of concerts as well, however, having people hold up their phones in front of my face to record the concert has put me off. I don't understand why someone pays $150.00 to attend a live concert, only to watch it through their cellphone.
I went with the kid to one of his hockey games while he was here and was approached to take over the reins of a National hockey tourney here next May, the person currently looking after it is a major medical researcher and has been offered a position at the University of Edinborough starting immediately. My health, unfortunately, won't let me take it on, but I sure would have done it a few years ago. Kids love hockey tournaments and seeing their smiles makes all the work worth it. I loved being back at the rink for that one night with the kid. Getting old sucks. If I felt better I would be there helping out, even in a minor capacity.
Well, not only are the drinks on me as my shout is long past due (as they say in OZ) So is Sunday dinner, so enjoy all.

In the early morning around 9 a.m. I started replacing the old nails by the side on the roof. I stopped by the carport with fresh nails. I was getting tired of pulling nails out and replacing them.
Layout Construction 5:
I added a fuller piece of foam so I won't add more sculptamold into my died river wash. Touched up the pink foam with sculptamold and waiting for it to dry. So tomorrow I'll start sanding.

Ulrich I was all so going to ask about the re-railing tool. Sorry to see you give up on trains. If you do give up maybe you would enjoy Tropical Fish. Very relaxing sort of like trains with no switching. Every time I buy Spakie speical dog food I stop and look at 125 gallon tank I would love to buy. When I ran the bodyshop I had a 29 gallon tank in my offices. Sill have a 70 gallon tank in the garage that I got when I was 15 years old. It has been dry for 20 years now with a beached U-Boat in it.
Work was nothing speical. Think I made around $25.00 extra but have not checked.

Stop that!! You know fully well that you will be miserable without a layout! Set it aside while your shoulder recovers.
If you really want O scale I have some 1950s Marx stuff that still runs well. Your problem will be that it takes a lot of space to set it up. Petra is not going to like tripping over it everywhere on the floor!

I did not catch much sleep last night - no wonder, it´s still rather windy here, which makes me feel uncomfortable.
Folks, thanks for the well meant advice! A rerailer won´t solve all the issues I have in building and operating a layout in that scale. Things need to be a lot bigger and also sturdier if I want to enjoy model railroading in the future. I don´t think I will pick up a new hobby should I not be able to continue in our mutual one.
Ken, I had a fish tank in my teens, but it turned out not to be my thing at all.
I have put a number of items up for sale at Ebay and the first item was sold within a couple of hours for a price I can be happy with. It´s the "Croc", which only ran occasionally on my layout, as it is way too delicate for me to handle.
No offer on the layout, yet - that´s going to be a tough one!

MLC ... Sounds like an adventure with Mrs. MLC's car. These days, a mechanic will hook up a computer to identify to problem, but sometimes even that does not work right. The electronics in cars today are more complex than what was used by NASA to put a man on the moon long ago.

Galaxy ... Sorry to hear about your heart failure. With something major like that, it is best to be a patient at a major heart clinic affiliated with a major research hospital. ... My opinion is based on my experiences being a patient heart failure clinic at Vanderbilt University Hospital. They have saved my life for certain. My treatments there are allowing me to have a close to nromal life now.
I was thinking about Inch. A couple of month ago, he posted some very bad news. I wanted to email him at the time, but could not lcoate his email address which I once had. I asked other forum membbers if they had his address, but they did not. I'm sad about his situation.
