Gee... A Blog

Lookee there, I have a blog now. I was assigned by my English teacher to make a blog, so I did one on the Surfline, seeing as I live about 10 miles away from Fullerton, which is a historic and current stop of the San Diegan/Surfliner. I'll be posting weekly, so keep an eye it!

Off to a good start.  It's very un-ornate.  Or is that non-ornate?  Perhaps contra-ornate?  Anyway,  that's a compliment.

I've got it on my short blog-list, along with McMansion Hell.  So you're in good company.

PS:  I've got it:  POST ORNATE!  YES!

I was assigned by my English teacher to make a blog,

What teacher would force students to make a real blog?

Edit: While I was reading your blog. You give some the history of the Metrolink in different paint schemes. My problem was since I don't model the Metrolink there was no years when it came out and continued operation until the new paint scheme took over.

An important detail who wants to model it.

Your English teacher assigned you to make a blog?

Jeez, in my day English teachers assigned readings in Shakespeare, Poe, Hawthorne, Wordsworth, you get the picture?

OK, OK, I'm a geezer.  The world's rushing past me into a future I can't see and ignoring me in the process.  C'est la vie.

No, wait a minute, that's French.  Never mind.

You're right. That'll be fixed.

McMansion Hell is hilarious, BTW.

As far as English Teachers assigning creating a blog to students, back in the day they would assign us compositions, book reviews, research reports--how is writing a blog on a topic any different?

This topic highlights how much things have changed in schools and the world of the present vs. "the olden days".

Blogs were a thing of the distant future when most of us here in this forum were in high school or even college.  LOL

Yeah.

In the olden days, a "blog" would likely have been a term used to describe ketchup that you'd dribbled down your shirt.

Or perhaps something you found while exploring a swamp.

Now a blog is a primary tool for exploring a swamp.

Brave new world.  But perhaps not brave as we once knew it.

When I first heard the term blog, it sounds sort of cave-man like.  Then someone much younger had to explain it is a contraction of two words, web and log.  I think there have been a lot of new words added to the dictionary in the past 20 years!

Neither did more than half the people in my neighborhood. At least in the "olden days" when the US was a melting pot, people came here and learned English and melted in.  My grand mother was born in Sweden but the family after immigrating to the states learned English and spoke it mostly.  As I teen I tried to get her to teach me a little Swedish but she had forgotton most of it. Times sure have changed.  Now I go outside and can't understand half the people.

Very nice. I too model Metrolink. Part of Metrolink is based in San Bernardino. There is a train know as the Beach Train which runs from San Bernardino, through Riverside, to San Clemente. It began running in 1996.
In 2010 the first Hyundai Rotem Crash Cars went into service. I believe the new paint scheme also began with these cars. They replaced the original suicide (control) cabs which were death traps for the engineers when involved in collisions when the train was being pushed. The Hyundai cars did have flaws in their design and construction and were pulled from duty after a collision with a truck in 2015. They were recalled and replaced with standard freight locomotives leased from Santa Fe until they could be repaired. A Metrolink locomotive was on the other end of each train.
