Monthly? Hmmm.

In 2002 I spent $81.08 on my model railroad.
In 2003 I spent $64.27 on the railroad.
So far in 2004, I spent $56.38 plus the nearly $100.00 of Dremel tool accessories Santa is bringing me. (Can't count the air compressor as that was a gift.)

Ah, now if you want to know what I spent on the hobby including memberships, magazines and books, that's different.

2002 - $81.08 plus $219.85 = $300.93 or $25.08 per month.
2003 - $64.27 plus $180.01 = $244.28 or $20.36 per month
2004 - $156.38 plus $60.00 = $216.38 or $18.03 per month (estimated)

Is the amount declining? Yes. I have a mature layout that doesn't need much and I have projects waiting that are mostly paid for. I've cut the number of historical societies that I belong to and now only take one magazine and keep up my membership in the NMRA. At current pricing, I'm not about to buy any new locomotives and I have no plans to go DCC as I run old equipment that would be a pain to convert (and sometimes a pain to run).

Anywhere from $0 to $100, depending on finances.

It varies for me month to month just depending on how much my other hobbies take up, i.e. kids and everything that comes with them. Otherwise anywhere from $10-$50

This year I bought the Walthers "Super Chief" series cars every month and not much else. This month I spent $50 on books and a snap relay. That averages out to about $45 a month or close to it.

Thanks to Atlas,Athearn and Walthers to much! Seems to me every time I turn around there is a new car to buy form the top three freight car suppliers that supplies my road with modern cars,..[}:)][:D]

It varies from nothing to not very much. The most I have spent recently was buying two engines retailing for well over $100. each on sale for $120[:D].

My spending comes is spurts. Since S scale isn't carried in my LHS I do most of my buying at two or three Great Scale Model Train Show in Timonium, MD each year, along with the occaisional mail order. I probably average $150 a month. One advantage of S scale is I don't have the opportunity to do a lot of impulse buying. Or is that a disadvantage[?] [:D][:D]

Enjoy

As close as I can figure, it averages out to about $150 a month.A couple of new engines, sound decoders, magazines, scenery, details etc.Sometimes more or less.....Maybe someday I'll get to open all the boxes. These "impulse"purchases are killing me.

Depends on the month - big times for me are late November (after birthday), around Christmas and June-July. Last month was expensive due to spending birthday money on a new LGB steamer (£230).

That's a tough one as purchases can range all over the board. I checked back and this year, not counting magazine subscriptions or books or railfanning (like riding tourist trains), I've averaged about $45/month in model railroading expenses. Only bought one locomotive, and it was on a special sale.

Regards

Some and none. And 'some' has been on vacation for a while. In other words, $0.00.[:(]

On average, how much do you spend each month on this hobby? Thanks, stephen

Just think it could be worse.
