Great American Layouts Series??????

OK........I guess I've been sleeping or something.........but I just became aware of a Kalmbach DVD series on model layouts. Apparently they are rehash DVD's of the old Allen Keller Great Model RR's series he did way back.

I wasn't aware Kalmbach had released them again. Using the site search engine (which really sucks!) I haven't been able to locate them.

Anyone have any information? Have they done all of the old AK stuff?

The case artwork leaves a lot to be desired as it shows pictures of several other layouts on the front and the back is just a table of contents. Same for all of the ones I saw for sale. Not very inspiring.

The AK shows were really pretty good for the most part so if they are the same then all the better. I missed some when they came around back then and would like to fill in the holes.

Looking on the 'net it looks like this was released in 2011 or 2012.  There are some on Ebay.

I've owned two of them and thought they were pretty well put together.  The interviews with the modeler's I found the most interesting and insightful.

So far I own 50 of the Model Railroader Great American Layouts DVD Series. These 50 DVD's cover all but 4 of the original Allen Keller Productions videos. On the plus side the VHS tapes have been converted to DVD format, but it does not appear the video quailty has been improved. Don't get me wrong, the quality is not poor, but it's still VHS quailty compared to DVD quality. Another problem with the series, some layout visits have been repeated as many of the DVD's contain two or more layout visits, causing duplicate visits on different DVD's. All in all I am glad Model Railroader took the time to convert these layout tours to DVD as many of my original Allen Keller VHS tapes are starting to show signs of wear. I do not know if these DVD's are available in the MR store, but they probably should be!
