Randy and Steven: Thanks for the guidance and directions. I can now say the archive is awesome. I've now found stuff back in the 1980s and 1970s that I needed. I'm getting pretty good on searching in blocks of years at a time - it's a cool tool!

You can get to the Archive from any web browser (including the one on your iPad) at http://www.modelrailroader.com/allaccess. And there is a search function within the archive; it's the top black icon on the right side of the page, the one that looks like a magnifying glass. If you're viewing the archive on a mobile browser, you might not be able to see the button because the page fills the screen, but if you tap the middle of the screen, the buttons will appear. In the search window, click "Advanced search" to search all issues, or a range of years. You can also choose whether to search just the index (which includes headlines, subheads, authors, and keywords) or full text, which may take a long time and return lots of irrelevant results (like text in ads), but will find your search term wherever it exists.

The only real beef I have with the iOS app on my iPad is that unlike the online version on the web site, there is no quick way to jump decades. So if I want to grab an issue from the 50's, it's a LOT of swiping up to scroll through the list. It really needs a 'decades' jump at least.

Thanks Randy. I was trying that web access from both the app and a browser on my iPad but after getting your reply I went to the laptop  I misstakenly assumed all browsers, iPad or Windows, worked the same for the MR site. That link works quite differently in a Windows based browser vs an iOS browser. So, that for me, says I must find what I want to look at via the search on a Windows browser.  Then I can access the issue on Windows or download it in the app. For some reason that download via the app is extremely slow so I will most likely just work with archive only from Windows.  Thanks for getting me on the right track.

At the very top of this page, next to the picture of one of the staff (it changes), it says "MR Subscribers, check out the new All-Time Digital Archives" - that is a link to the online version of the archives.

There is no search in the Archive app, but there is one linked from the main page. You can also Google search for MR articles to find the issue you need.

All-Time Digital Archive

I saw the ad for subject in September issue and got email from MR about it. I found some info about it on MR site which led to me adding it to my subscription. Only way I've been able to access it is thru the app from iTunes with my iPad. I cannot figure out how to look at a magazine issue's index without downloading the total magazine issue nor can I figure out how to see the total index for all the magazines. Can't find any search means. Also, I can't figure out how to access the archive from my Windows laptop so I do not know if I can even use that. So, I know I'm missing something or doing it all wrong. I need some added direction.  Thanks for any help.
