My new job leaves me exhausted and stressed with little time or energy to actually build a layout. I am considering having one built for me to enjoy in the next year or two. Its not a big layout, 4x8 that only has access from the front side due to my small layout room. I have seen where some were done with two 4x4 sections to allow it to be placed in the room. I would love a little slice of Colorado narrow gauge in HOn3 and a place to run my old PFM/United K28. Anybody had a layout built for them and can pass along thier thoughts ect? Thanks Mike

I have no recommendations for layout builders, but you may find that you'll get more operational value with a shelf-type layout rather than a tabletop style. In a small room, all of the shelf can be accessible, and, depending on layout height, not have too much of a negative impact on other uses of the same room. The one possible drawback of a shelf layout in a small room is that it would be best suited as a point-to-point, but it will allow wider curves at the corners of the room than are possible on a 4'x8'. If you want continuous running possibilities, all that might be needed would be a lift-out or otherwise open-able section of the layout at the doorway.

I'm surprised by the number of ads I see for layout builders.
If money is an object, and it would be for me and most of us, someone who is closer might be more affordable than someone who has to ship it from across the country.
