Thanks fellows- My computer expert wife was able to use the information you provided to get my photos onto the forum. My new post, using the photos, is titled "Mystery Streamliner." Thanks again for your timely help!
Regards- Richard W.

My experience is like Ken's.
However I generally use the photo editing software that came with my Kodak digital camera to reduce photos to somewhere between 300x400 and 400x600 prior to uploading. That's plenty of pixels for anyone viewing on a screen.
Meanwhile I have the original photo in all its multimegapixel glory on my computer's hard drive.
If you want to see one of my larger uploads, try clicking on this link. After the photo opens up, click on the little box that has the photo icon with arrows pointing out. That will open it up full size and you'll have to scroll to see it all.

That's the big version of this photo:

The photo's I have on railimages are huge and taken with a 4megapixel camera, If they are toooo big they get resized to fit automatically when you upload from your computer.
My camera photo size is 2304. or smaller.

Hey y'all,
How do you get the photos to a small enough file size to post on railimages? They want tiny ones that are low quality.

There are lots and lots of places on the internet to have your photos hosted for free. www.railimages.com is one of many. Do a google search for "free image hosting" for the others. ENJOY!

Okay, first things is that you can't post directly from your desktop because you're not actually uploading the photos to Trains. You need a photo hosting website. You upload your images from your home computer to the photo hosting site, then reference the address of the photo in your post here.
One popular site for photo hosting (there are a number of them) is Rail Images. (www.railimages.com). It's free, although they do like to get donations to help cover the cost of maintaining the site. They're in the middle of migrating the site to a new and larger server today, so it may be off line at this moment. Should be back tomorrow.
So first step is to select a photo hosting site of your choice, open an account, and upload some photos there. Then come back and we'll guide you through actually posting them here.
Regards
Ed

Hello fellows- It seems that inserting photos into a post on Trains.com is not as simple as on EBay or on programs such as Microsoft Publisher. I have clicked the icon for "insert image" but what I get is a criptic notation of:
I have a couple of JPEG images in a folder on my desktop and I'd like to add these to a question I'd like to ask on Trains.com. But I am stumped! Can someone give me some instructions, please? I have sent a question to the Trains.com webmaster but have not received a reply. -Richard W.
