Microscale lists a "lightable number board" set in HO.
They also list the same in N. If you get my drift.

I would imagine that any white background decal paper could be used to make number board decals whether black numbers on a white background or white numbers on a black background. The white background should be opaque enough for non-lit numberboards but still translucent enough for lit numberboards.
I have also printed number boards on Avery label stock. Just print it, cut it out, then press in place. Although thicker than a decal, the raised surround on most numberboards is still thicker than the label stock so you don't see the label edge.

Thanks for input. I ordered some Accu Cal decals. I will let you know how it works out.
On my lighted headlight number boards I paint the lens black and than decal. I use DCC and the headlight on helps me know what direction my loco will travel in next.
Wayne, I just noticed the Flexicoil tucks on those EMD switchers, like New Haven probably others. Great work.

Thanks for your kind words, Chris.
It never occurred to me that a lot of diesel models nowadays have lighted numberboards, so perhaps ordinary decals wouldn't be very useful. The was, at one time, someone offering decals with an opaque background and clear numerals, but I can't recall the name of the company or if they're still around. My switchers were Athearn Blue Box models, upgraded with can motors, extra details, and a lot of extra weight. The headlight castings were from Detail Associates, with MV Products lenses, but they weren't lit. I don't use working lights on any of my locomotives, and if new ones are equipped with them, I remove them.

Thanks Guys.
Are the Shell Decals for the big number boards on the hood front and rear of Geeps or are they for the sides of the headlights of EMD switchers?
Just like Waynes number 46 above. Beautiful switcher by the way.
Some of my switchers have lighted headlight boards others not. P2K is lighted, Kato and Walthers are not.
Thanks, Chris
Ive never changed the numbe boards because they are lit. Are they decals? Will removing them with Microsol ruin the lighting?

I'm just a dude with a bad back having a lot of fun with model trains, and finally building a layout!
I can't recall if I used numerals from Champ or Accucals, and while most of my locos used only two digits, I probably have lots left. If you get stuck, send me a PM...
Take a look at this site. I bought a set of very small numberboard numbers and they are small.

Hi Guy's
Touching base to see who makes these decals. On Reading and CNJ they are with the sets but for Penn Central they are not. Niether the MicroScale nor the Miller Advertising (Herald King) sets have these headlight numbers.
These are for the headlights on switchers not the large lighted number boards on Geeps.
Any help is appreciated, Chris
