Yes you can, if you look in MRR's Model Railroad Planning 2002 display untill may 31, issue, on page 29 bachmann has an add showing Ballasted EZ track.

Look more closely at that ad and you'll see the track is laid on carpeting! A typically beautiful Ken Patterson photo

Yes I did note that a section of track is on carpet, thats the idea behind the ad, that you can use EZ Track on the deep pile of your living room carpet or ballasted on a prototype layout. And when it's done correctly it looks good. I use EZ track when I set up my ceramic Christmas village under the tree on a 56" x 80 " panel door layout and it works great. as for my prototype layout I use all Atlas flex track so I can make the radius and easements that I want and I am not confined to what a manufacturer offers. I have had good results with ez track my Christmas trains run 8 to 12 hours a day with no electrical or derailment problems.

For a good book on using E-Z track with ballast, see:

"The HO Model Railroading Handbook", 3rd ed

by Robert Schleicher

Krause Publications, 1998.

My library had it - now I do (thanks to Amazon)

George: How about a brief 'thumbnail description' of the EZ track ballasting method, as many libraries won't have this book. This might help the originator of this thread to decide whether to try it.
