If it shows up too big on the forums you have to go into imgur and select edit to size your picture

Is there an example of that in this forum?

If I am inadvertently doing that, I can't see it on my own computer.  I have not seen it in other's posts.

My bad,  I was not explicit enough.  Sometimes I'm tired at night after work.  I failed to State the picture looks big before you submit it to post.

Sorry for the confusion

BigDaddy

I've never posted directly from my phone.  I email them to myself usually in medium format so I have never had to monkey around with size in this forum.

That's cool.  May have misunderstood.  I was just sharing how my daughter taught me to post pictures from the phone.  For all I know MR automatically sizes pictures up.  You're right I've never seen oversized pictures on this forum either.

Gary it looks like you got things down better than I do if it works it works don't fix it.

Henry.    Same problem I ran into.  Post a random picture from the internet it turns out the perfect size.

When posting your personal pictures from your phone or camera it comes up 20 sizes too big trying to set it up to post to the forums.

You go into your Imgure site, select a  picture,  push edit,   select 640 for the first number for your picture size, then look for the option import my pictures of this size always.   I don't think it's worded like that but you get my gist.  Hunt round a little bit and you'll find it.

After that it's just copy and paste it's a beautiful thing.

Wa La !! I opened it in Imgur then uploaded to Safari then copied it and pasted it here.  Not sure that's right but it worked.

Is there an example of that in this forum?  I see that in a non MR forum I belong to, that uses a different source to manage the forum.  Someone will post a picture there that is so big, you need 3-4 monitors side by side to see it and then the entire post is stretched out to a single line.

If I am inadvertently doing that, I can't see it on my own computer.  I have not seen it in other's posts.

I gotta admit.  I am a computer idiot.  I don't even feel bad saying that.  It's hard to teach an old dog new tricks.  My daughter came over and set me up with Imgure as a picture hosting sight.  She said it's more user-friendly,  not overloaded and does not have glitches.

This dinosaur does not argue with kids about modern technology.  They know everything about computers, devices and everything that relates to them.

She had to come over a second time before I could actually feel comfortable using this easy site.  ha ha

I use the dreaded Photobucket, but I bought the year subscription, for $14.  No ads, and it works great.

If you read the post ( sticky note) by Steve Otte, at the beginning of the General Discussion forum, scroll down to gmpullman's (Ed), is the method I use, and I have had no problems.

BigDaddy

The link itself has to end in one of the picture formats like .jpg .png .tif .bmp

I did see a google pic work, once, I don't know how the poster did it.

I have been using Ingur lately as Photobucket is intermittantly AWOL and full of ads.  It is tricky to get to the image that also shows the direct link.  You have to click on Your Images, not Your Album

I agree with the above I had problems posting a picture and had a post picture test Thread about two weeks ago everyone was very helpful.

All I can tell you if you have your pictures on Imgur you open up that on your computer as well as opening up the model railroad forums so you have both.  You right click on your imgur picture select copy go back to the model railroad Forums right click and paste there it is.

But I can tell you pictures I selected from the internet worked just fine but depending on the camera or the phone you used  the picture megapixels matter.  If it shows up too big on the forums you have to go into imgur and select edit to size your picture. Select 640 for the first number the second number will come up automatically.

Hope this helps if you have any questions don't be afraid to ask.

For me, TrainBoard.com Railimages is the way to go.

To start, you need a photo-sharing site like Flickr (or the dreaded photobucket), your own blog or website, or something like that. I like Trainboard's Railimages.

Dropbox is file-sharing, not photo-sharing. So it create downloads, not images.

Then follow the directions in the first post of this thread:
http://cs.trains.com/mrr/f/88/t/249194.aspx

Beyond the first post that thread ... um ... wanders.

How do you get a photo to show in a post?
Posted by gdelmoro on Tuesday, May 30, 2017 5:27 PM

so I reviewed the procedure to post a photo.  I set-up a DropBox account, I pull up ther pic and select export which allows me to create a link.  I copy the link and click the insert photo icon then insert it into my post.  The link is there and if you click it it will take you to the photo.  But I can't get the photo to show in the post. Only the link.

Clearly I'm doing something wrong.
