No this car did not have a decoder, those cars are around $150,just a few passengers sitting in the dark.....

Weird.  The porter should have pulled down their berths by now.

Did that car with the decoder?  If it did I can see where the decoder cost would offset the lighting unit cost.

Lol you think that's bad, try searching Walthers' website for the pre-1960 set. It doesn't even exist anymore!

Sure I can use the car but the point I am trying to make is I paid a $105 for a car with no lights which came with another lit car in the same set which was $99. It just does not add up

Can you still pull the train around your layout?   I would still run it even if the sleepers aren't lit.

How will your passengers sleep with that bright light on?

The sets were released about two cars a month, this particular car 920-9252 was shipped to me in early in 2016,when produced.

model railroader reviewed the last car released,an RPO,in 2017

The product number for the set was 920-812,several dealers sold the cars individually using the number off the end of each box the cars came in

Curiously, this number does not turn up an item at Walthers

Walthers seems to have forgotten they produced this model.  They are readily available on Ebay with this model number.

Modeltrainstuff thinks they have leds, Trainworld does not.

It looks like they came out in 2012 if I read Internet posts correctly.  Tough luck for the OP.  On one hand it would have been nice customer service if Walthers could have come up with some consideration for him, on the other hand 5 years is a long time to register a complaint about a product that is no longer in production.

Thought I'd see what Walthers said in their item description.  Curiously, this number does not turn up an item at Walthers.   Even when including discontinued items.

Not so deluxe walthers passenger car
Posted by turbine71 on Saturday, May 27, 2017 6:10 PM

sometime ago I purchased a complete deluxe set of passenger cars from walthers, the 1960 Broadway Limited.

these cars come with people and more importantly for me the car names or numbers are factory printed on the sides.

walthers advert stated these cars also came with lighting and some cars had a decoder installed to.

as I was in the middle of building a new layout at the time I quickly tested the cars and then put them away, noting several cars did not light up when on a powered track.

I assumed these unlit cars were the ones with a decoder and required programming

Recently I unpacked and tested the cars  again to find out why they were not lit and imagine my surprise when one of the cars had no lighting unit installed.

I contacted walthers and they claim that there was no room to fit a lighting unit in that type of sleeper ....

when I mentioned the car was the same price as the ones with lights etc, therefore I felt they owe me a lighting unit, they remained silent.

if you google the car 920-9252 only train world states the car is not lit, five or six other places state the car is lit.

sorry to ramble on a little
