Interesting that they say the problems come from some timber ties that are a bit too aged.

The ties should be the least of their worries. The Hudson and East River tunnels are just over a hundred years old and they are still "discussing" what to do about it. (Gateway Program)

Yes, that trackwork, and the similar arrangement at Grand Central, has always fascinated me.

Two derailments in just under two weeks? Alexander Johnston Cassatt is flipping over in his... well you know.

I had seen some headlines this week where I did not read further, but one today caught my eye due to an interesting photo of the nifty trackage.  A bit beyond any complexity on my 5'x9' layout.  Interesting that they say the problems come from some timber ties that are a bit too aged.  (You have to ignore the politics and finger pointing.)
