My wife said "Thanks for buying me this!"    So is it mine or hers?

If you want to continue a good relationship and be able to request additonal space (or keep  what you have), it's hers.

Just  having her interested enough to want one is a plus.  As long as it is on the layout, it's available to use as needed.

Mine wanted an N scale under the Christmas tree train.  Son moved home a couple years ago, buried it.

Good luck,

Richard

When you're enjoying watching it it's yours I guess.  But don't tell her that.  And if that flies go buy her another one.  Lol

A more pressing question might be 'who removed the Burlington Route herald from the tender?'

Looks like a Broadway Limited USRA Heavy Mikado, not sure if it a Blueline, Paragon, Paragon 2 or Paragon 3.

I was once at a very small motorcycle gathering at Summit Point WV.  At 6:30 on Sunday morning we were awoken Ed's wife shouting:

"WELL ED YOU DO IT IT'S YOUR HOBBY"

The guy in the tent next to mine said  "Rut Ro"

I would assume that the guy I bought it from did. It is a BLI and the Q ran fairly close to me when I was a kid. We had gone to an open house at Chaddwick Illinois and a guy had a steam loco with sound that impressed the wife so she said you should get one of those. So I did!

My wife said "Thanks for buying me this!"

You MAY be mistranslating wife-speak.

It is possible that she's been feeling you're supposed to be buying her something kind of nice/wonderful.  And all you bought was that stupid train.  So maybe she feels a stupid train is better than nothing.

I surely hope everyone else's translation is right.  'Cause THIS translation is not a pleasant one.

My wife bought me an Emeril cookset. Very nice.  I do like to cook but when I see her use it I see the gleam in her eye and a grin on her face.  I bought her a nice cushy bed and she loves it.  But when I'm on my side sleeping I snore like The Hound of the Baskervilles.  The moral of the story what's mine is hers and what's hers is mine.  I can't keep my tools in her kitchen and she can't keep my balls in her purse.   You only need one good cookset and you only need one good bed.  But you can never have enough trains.  That's cool your wife took an interest in your hobby.   I asked my wife if she wanted her own locomotive when my layout was up and ready to roll.  She said yeah I want a yellow one.  I thank God for Union Pacific.

I dunno, how heavy was the sarcasm? Laugh

The next time your wife bought YOU something - who is using it? Whistling

It sounds as if she would have enjoyed something you had intended for her....or is she really into this particular steam locomotive? Sad

Hello all,

You obviously did not read the fine print on your marriage certificate...

"She who must be obeyed" owns everything!

Hope this helps.

You have to have kids of a certain age that know who Scoobie Do is.

Hello all,

Track fiddler
I just gots to knows. What is (Rut Ro)

It's a reference to the cartoon character from Scooby Dooby Doo; the dog Scooby-Doo, who spoke in broken English.

The actual quote is, "Rut ro, Raggy!" (Uh oh, Shaggy! in Scooby speak).

This phrase was uttered by the character when there was trouble afoot.

Hope this helps.

Post Script: I guess I am one of those kids of a "certain age" (53-years young).

To clarify, my wife encourages my modeling passion, She wanted me to build a G scale backyard railroad. When I found out with backyard layouts you do as much gardening as layoutwork I said no and she suggusted a basement layout. I guess I am lucky. Yes she did like the sound aspect, but also said "the grandkids will love it." She also encourages my club activities.

Good to hear.

I see it as her owning it, but you using it on short term lease.  Meaning the owner may call it back at anytime.  And you are responsible for maintenance while it's on your property.  Any modifications must be approved by the owner.

And the owner may modify the lease at anytime.

CGW, I think she may have been telling you that to show her appreciation for your gift it's now OK for you to buy yourself the new living room set that she - uh, er, you - always wanted...

This car stops at ALL railroad crossings!

Once my new girlfriend figured out that I was into model railroading (MR mags and track plan sketches, plus a Tenshodo 0-6-0T and a couple of 4 wheel freight cars) she cemented the relationship by buying me a Kawai kit that built up into a nice little 2-6-4T - my first brass locomotive.

Later that year we married.

Now, 56+ years later, the marriage and the locomotive are still going strong.

Sometimes you get lucky...
