I don't know how much research you have done. All the scrap yards around here (South Florida) use material handlers made by Sennebogen. These are really cool pieces of equipment.

.

They resemble a typical medium length knuckled arm excavator, but the cabs are on extendable mounts. They are also painted a very distictive color of green. The most common tool ends I see are the magnet, or a four claw power grab.

.

I think a kitbash would be easy. I do not think any models are available.

.

A quick Google image search for "sennebogen" is worth the time.

NVSRR: What era are you modeling? This makes a huge difference.

I found that kibri  still makes the long stick demolition  Leberre  lintronic  974 excavator.  That with the claw from shapeways  will be perfect.  Matches what is common in scrap yards.

As previously mentioned look at Menards. This ad appeared in March issue of MR

Hope this helps.

Gee, and Walthers only wanted $37 for the same item.............

https://www.walthers.com/products/manufacturer-name/kibri/show/20?item_number=11282&match=AND

And you might try these folks to see if they have in stock:

I see that on eBay often the eBay price is higher than the Walther's price and usually Walther's has it in stock.

George Barrett at Sheepscott Scale Products makes a number of different crane kits. They are resin kits with etched brass booms. He may even have the graple claws. Send him an e-mail describing what you want to model. He makes each custom for the customer

Hello all,

Check out Menards. They have a line of HO scale die-cast vehicles that you might be able to kit-bash to suit you needs.

At around $26.00 +S&H these might be just the ticket.

Hope this helps.

Shane, this link is to diecast vehicles-construction-usa only, on Ebay.

http://www.ebay.com/sch/Construction-Equipment/180274/i.html?_fsrp=1&Scale=1%253A87&LH_PrefLoc=1

Lots of track hoes you could mount your gapple to.  Just about all my construction and logging related equipment has come from.  These are all listing in the USA.

Mike.

I am willing.to put.in the work. CUstom finishing used to make a grapple claw.    But that one from shapeways will  work.

Perhaps some of the items from EEF could be retro fitted to another sort of construction vehicle.

for example

Sounds like a really good excuse to scratchbuild something, start with a backhoe and see what you can come up with. I'm sure you could do it for less then $80

If you're willing to do a bit of work, keep an out for old Matchbox/Hot Wheels/Majorette diggers/excavators/cranes.  With a bit of work and some parts, you can make a decent model.  For example, I use many truck cabs from them to make grain trucks.

Modeling whatever I can make out of that stash of kits that takes up half my apartment's spare bedroom.

I read the description  and it says the earliest it will arrive is in a month. And the total price will appear on the package.     Ok wonder if that seller actually has.it or will buy it when.you do.   Otherwise I could have made it work.  Just find a crawler under carriage

You don't want to pay $80 for one from Japan?

In all seriousness, I've only seen these occasionally at shows around here.  You may want to look at toy stores, or antique shops, as something may turn up there.

So I have been working on a scrap yard.   used to be able.to.get  a lot of different excavators with claws. And  the claws themselves.   I can not even find anything any more. Now that I am.actually working on it.  Not even on eBay.  Need to be pointed in the right direction.   Thank you.  Shane
