Whistle Problem

I have a Lionel Pennsylvania Flyer kit (O-27 scale). When I put the engine and the coal car on the track, the whistle blows constantly. The engine speeds up when I pu***he whistle button on the controler. The train worked fine before I put it in the attic last year. Any idea what I can do to fix the problem?

This question would probably be best posed on the Trains.com Classic Toy Trains forum, you're likely to find answers there.

They will speed up pushing the whistle button. I am not sure why it keeps blowing though. Doesn't sound like a major problem.
