Have to agree with Antonio there. I don't model modern era so I hadn't looked in detail at the BLI SD40-2, but I just took a listen to the sound clip there and it sounds like every actual SD40-2 I've seen roll by.
You can't beat the QSI sound systems. My father in law started his career in railroading working the PRR/Penn Central yard in Thorndale PA when the GG1's still ran, and he has a BLI GG1 and says it's exactly how he remembers them sounding.

Actually, doesn't QSI makes Atlas sound systems as well?

As in all audio equipment, it isn't necessarily the sound processor but the speaker system that is more important in producing good sound. I can have the most wonderful/expensive stereo amp and make it sound like terrible by hooking cheap speakers to it.

The BLI SD40-2 is onthe BLI web page for shipment this month, but it has benn scheduled on and off for six months. If you check the BLI web site weekly, they usually post the latest items that are being shipped.
Broadway-limited.com

I have not read that they are being shipped as of this date.

One thing to check when thinking about sound look at manf.web site if it says spefic sound for that engine or just diesel sound. They use the same sound system for their e7 as with the sw series.except for the horn.I don;t think either has shipped.qsi did produce the sound for the atlas train master and also for life like e's and geeps .

I've heard the sounds sample from the BLI SD40-2 and it sounds like crap. Go with the atlas even if it isn't out yet. While we're on the topic. Does anyone that makes GOOD representations of SD45s SD40s and SD40-2s
