In my oppinion... I think Vallejo "Hull Red" is a very appropriate color for these cars. It is acrylic. Polly Scale paints always looked a bit powdery and pastel for my preferences.

Living the dream.
I have a bottle of PollyScale mineral red, I may use that.
During the 50's/60's they were brown or mineral red. At some point during ther 60's they were repainted green with yellow arrows.
The Reading's boxcar color woas roughly the same as the ATSF boxcar color, "mineral brown", so if you don't get a good answer on the Reading, check on what is a good color for an ATSF mineral brown car and then use that paint.

Hi Reading fans,
I bought a few F&C Reading boxcar kits at a train show last weekend and wondering what might be a good acrylic paint to use to paint the models to represent the late '40s/early '50s cars with Roman lettering. I prefer acrylics though would consider Solvent based paints too.
Thank you in advance,
Alvie
