TN Rail
Sad, but it's reality They could not compete with the internet.

First,I agree that Mom & Pop can't complete and that's sad and a pity. I would happily buy freight cars at a LHS because there's no savings when you buy one or two cars after you add shipping.

However.

Today's new hobby shops needs a on line presence even if its no more then a e-Bay store since the old school way of running a hobby shop is a sure path to failure regardless of location.

The Dixie Flyer was the anchor of the yearly train swap meet which spread around the entire downtown area (basically one city block).  A tour of the historic hotel is worth the trip in itself.  I make it a point to attend every year, I hope this show continues.

Dixie Flyer Train Shop Closed
Posted by TN Rail on Wednesday, January 4, 2017 7:50 AM

Another local train shop closed last week. The Dixie Flyer in Wartrace Tn closed its doors after 5 years. They were listed in MRR in the retail section. They were a model train specific store not a full hobby shop. I had the pleasure of shopping there a few times. Great shop and great folks! It was located right off the CSX line, so always some great live train action as well. Had chairs on the porch for train watching.

Sad, but it's reality They could not compete with the internet. The location was a bit off the beaten track (approx 65 miles from downtown Nashville) but worth the trip! Just wanted everyone to be aware they are not open anymore in case you had plans to visit them if you were in the area. Their website is still active and does not mention the closing as of yet.

RIP: Dixie Flyer Train Shop you will be missed.
