I have a picture on my comuter I want to add to a new post. I have placed photos in Photobucket in the past and added them to a post, but it has been a while. I don't remember how I did it and I can't find my instructions. Thanks.
Hi, Starman
Did you read through the "sticky" at the top of the General Discussion page?
http://cs.trains.com/mrr/f/88/t/249194.aspx
That might refresh your memory...
Good Luck, Ed
I read the sticky, but my problem is that I don't know how to get my picture into Photobucket.
Hey Starman
Go to photobucket.com and log in the usual way. At the top right corner is a blue botton labeled 'UPLOAD'. Touch it. It will take you to the upload window that has a big square. Inside the square it says 'Drag and Drop' and another button labeled 'UPLOAD'. Either option will allow you to copy and paste from your PC. Select the photo you want and place it in that square. Photobucket will put it in your active album. Then use Steve's instructions from there.
Good luck.
Robert

When I use Photo Bucket, I click on the Upload link which looks at my computer. I pick out the folder and upload. Maybe Photo Bucket has issues now since you have done this before.
I have noticed over the years they seem to like to mess with their users and change procedures.

If you ever fall over in public, pick yourself up and say “sorry it’s been a while since I inhabited a body.” And just walk away.
starmanI read the sticky, but my problem is that I don't know how to get my picture into Photobucket.
Follow the yellow circles
login
Click Upload
Choose which pics
Next a window opens and you have to navigate to the folder that has the pic on your computer. In this case there is only one file, if I clicked on it it would appear in the box I have highlighted yellow.
Notice it then says Images Uploaded Successfully, now we have to find them on Photobucket. Click on View Library. You may have to hunt for them, as of late, Photobucket is not listing my latest uploads as the most recent.
When you find you upload, double click on it.
Now this should be the only picture that you see, click in the yellow box and you will briefly see copied
Return to the MR forum, compose your post and where you want to put the photo, click on the icon that looks like a small mountain on a postage stamp; then pust the control key and the letter v at the same time.

Thanks to all!! I was successful placing my photo in Photobucket.
OK. I have my photo in Photobucket and I have followd the information in the sticky. However, when I click on my photo in my Photobucket library, this is what is in the address bar:
http://s1078.photobucket.com/user/starman44/media/IMG_2242_1.jpg.html?sort=3&o
Note it is not a jpg or gif. How do I get a jpg or gif file?
starman,
What you need to copy is the "Copy Image Location" address, which you can access by right clicking on your photo then left clicking the aforementioned option. Paste this URL in your response using the "Insert/edit image" icon above your text box: Paste the address in the "Source" text box then click OK. Your photo should now become viewable in your text box. When you have everything arranged how you want it, click "Submit Your Reply". That should do it for you.

Time...It marches on...without ever turning around to see if anyone is even keeping in step.
starmanHowever, when I click on my photo in my Photobucket library, this is what is in the address bar:
Look at my next to last photo. On the right it shows you where to click highlighted in yellow. If you click in a different block, who knows what might happen.
Two things:
Use your onboard photo manipulation software to make an image file substantially smaller than the image file your computer saves from your camera. Typically, between 250KBytes and 400KBytes. When you go to upload to photobucket, their server will be able to upload it faster AND mangle it for their purposes to display effectively in your gallery. Just remember that you have done this and not to click on the original to upload it. It'll take forever!!
Secondly, open the full-sized image on photobucket. To the right is a shaded block with four menue items. I believe the last or the second-to-last in the stack is IMG file link. Click on that one and it should briefly yellow for you. Go back to this site and simply click and paste the URL. From there, unfortunately, and unlike two years ago before 'something' changed, you must delete everything after the SECOND [img] and everything in front of the first one in the URL. I have no idea why the change (for me, at least...) but that's what I have to do. Works flawlessly, too.
Way too much superfluous information being offered here.
In photobucket, click on the line of data labelled "img". It should turn yellow for a moment, indicating that the data has been copied.
Here, in your composition window, place the cursor where you wish the picture to apppear, then right-click and then, in the drop-down menu which has appeared, click "Paste". The line of data will appear, and when you hit "Submit Your Reply", the data will appear as the picture.
Here's your picture:

You're right, Crandell, so please pardon my earlier remark. There's way too much data in that "img" line, and it made my remarks, shown above the picture in my previous post, part of the link when the remark was in its original position following the line of picture data. The extraneous data is what caused that, I'd guess.
Here's what's in the "img" data in my photobucket (with the first "[" removed:

...and with the link complete:
It's been some time since I've adjusted my account settings, but there may be something there which will rectify your situation and that of the OP.
My photobucket albums show six options for sharing each photo, but I actually use only the "img" one.
The others are:
Email and IMDirectHTMLHTML thumbIMG IMG thumb
As I recall, you can delete those which are not needed...I've just never bothered.

If my post is wrong, I will take it down. As far as I can tell, this is exactly what I do to post a photo. There are other ways to do it, but if the OP follows the yellow it should work for him too..
Sorry, BigD, I thought your screenshots to be a very useful instruction tool, and I just discovered that many users of photobucket here don't seem to have the same ease of use when trying to add photos here. I was worried that subsequent replies seemed to be adding to the confusion for the OP. If I had to jump through the hoops that apparently many users of photobucket do, you wouldn't have to look at any photos from me. What a rigmarole!
Thanks Wayne. I did not want to inadvertantly give bad advice. I agree that Photobucket is not the most user friendly and has annoying pop up windows.
I posted in the past on how to get a Flickr picture to post. It requires a lot of editing of the link and prone to mistakes. I just signed up for Imgur to see if it works better. This is a test
I don't know how user-friendly that site is, Henry, but that photo certainly passes the test.
Wayne,
I was getting tired of looking at Your photos anyway!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL Naw...JUST KIDDING.

My computer locked up on a screen shot. If you hover over the right side of your picture a drop down window appears on the right side of the screen.
Click get share links and copy the BB Code link and directly copy it into your post without using the photo icon. OR if you go back to your photos later, the BB Code link is an option on the right with going to the drop down menu.
It seems to work faster the the Bucket.
Thanks everyone for your help. I finally got everything to work and I made notes to file away in my Model Railroader folder so next time when I want to post a picture and can't remember how to do so, I can find my notes. Starman
I haave noticed twice in the past, go away for a year or two and they mess with the site and slow it down with different changes and advertising. You Tube is really bad at this.

That's not my track BTW, Severna Park MR Club gets credit. I am not even sure I can conceive of how a double slip mated to a double cross over actually works.
All my photos are on my iPad and I cannot find a way to post them here. I can post them on almost any other site but not here.
Is there a way to post pictures directly from my iPad? I don't want to use another hosting site.

David,
No, sorry. Our Forum does not support direct photo hosting. You have to host the photo elsewhere and link to it from our Forums, as has been described above.
