Welcome back to the hobby ! I agree with Dave. Check out the NMRA National model railroad association. They have members all over the states and if you join ( get the magazine option well worth the $ you will be able to find like minded individuals.

I would also like to invite you to Jeffries trackside diner. I will buy you a cup of joe when you visit.

Hey Turtlenator!

Welcome back to the hobby and welcome to the forums!!    Welcome

The National Model Railroad Association (NMRA) has a listing of clubs by state. Scroll down to Minnesota. There is at least one N scale club in the Twin Cities area, the 'Great River Valley System':

Things have changed a lot in 40 years. Joining a club would certainly help you get up to speed. The forums are pretty good too.

Cheers!!

Dave

I'm just a dude with a bad back having a lot of fun with model trains, and finally building a layout!

an unmarked 4-6-4 steam with tender and various cars and track, Any idea of what the unmarked steam loco is?

A picture would be helpful.  Yes you have to read the directions below to make it happen, http://cs.trains.com/mrr/f/88/t/249194.aspx  Photobucket has been troublesome the last couple weeks.

Welcome to the forum.

Turlenator;

Wlecome back to the hobby! Welcome The newer MRC power packs would probably be a better option, is your layout DC or DCC?  Can we see a photo of the train you purchased?   As for clubs, I live in Southern California, never been to the upper northwest. However you can type in "Minneapolis N Scale Clubs" on google and see what you find!

This hobby is addicting, yet fun at the same time!

Hi everyone. I am new (again) to model railroads after a 40+ year absence. This time I am going N scale instead of HO. I do have a few questions. I have used MRC power controler/packs in the past, when they had a copper colored case and I had trouble with them burning out. Are they any better now? Secondly. I just purchased some train stuff on ebay. I got a German made Arnold Rapido and an unmarked 4-6-4 steam with tender and various cars and track, and 2 power packs (one is already in trash, the other will soon be joining i, as it is Bachman) Any idea of what the unmarked steam loco is? It appears to be old by the wear and chips on the paint. The Arnold I know is at least 10-12 years old, but is in mint condition. No clue as to what this stuff was worth, but I am happy with the deal. And lastly, are there any organizations/clubs for N scale people in the Minneapolis area (north metro)? Thank you
