Could be a dirty commutator (clean with a pencil eraser) or worn out carbon brushes, easy to replace. mer

ok I took my childhood Lionel engine out of storage, cleaned the wheels, pick up rollers and oiled the drivers. It runs but not good at all.

Where can i find info on how ton service, maintain the loco?

Did you clean the track? Dirty track is usually the problem which causes poor preformance.

Lionel shows about 750 entries on their site for steam engine manuals.  I started going through them; but, hey, it ain't MY problem.  Plus, I don't know exactly which loco I'm looking for.

Anyway, a person might check there.

You would likely get a lot more information on the 'Classic Toy Trains' forum.
