Southbound Night Train Hi! After a hiatus, I'm back. I have a lot of ideas to get out there, so let's start. If you have read the title already, you know that I like the La Mesa RR Club, down in San Diego. So, what do you guys think of them? And have you been to Balboa Park?

Been there 3 times (so far) Yes, it is a must see if in the area. Astonishing to say the least. My next wish is to visit Greer CO.

I'm a member of Orange County Module Railroaders here in California. Each person owns a module that can be created into a layout except for the yard and corners (which are club owned). some of the layout sizes have been 20X40, 20X50, 24X52, and 37X40. The club does about 10-12 shows a year, but since I tune in periodically, it all looks fresh to me. I bring my trains to run on the layout, tune them up, and chat with fellow members. Sometimes I run thier trains if they give me permission.
They hit a balance of the model vrs toy aspect of the hobby with their layouts. Amazing work on the HO that appeals to segments of our hobby population for detail, modeling, inspiring work and then the O layout deffinaitly strikes at the memory for reasons some of us joined/the aspect that excites kids (our children and us of course hahaha)......My wife fully understands when we visit San Diego that the son and I will be lost in there for at least an hour.....she can so look at the flowers or whatever.
Excellent videos on rolling stock tuninf for reliable operation.

I would join except it is just a bit to far away to drive there often. It's a great club and the layouts are nice, especially the Tehachapi Pass layout. The park is nice too but the club is the best part.
A visit to the San Diego Model Railroad Museum in Balboa Park is what got me started in the hobby. A great way to spend an afternoon.

The La Mesa club has an excellent video on car standards. It's a full hour long.

There is also a shorter version with less detail.

Whats not to like! Southern California scenery, western trains; I grew up in California so I'm biased but unfortunately I've been stranded on the east coast for the past 11 years so I haven't had the chance to visit yet. It's on my to-do list.
If you have read the title already, you know that I like the La Mesa RR Club, down in San Diego. I don't know, but it still fills me with that child-like wonder every time I go, even though my family has been going there since as long as I could remember. Its been about 10 or so years (give or take about 2 years) since my first visit, and I still seems to impress me. So, what do you guys think of them? And have you been to Balboa Park?
