I do what Sheldon recommended and have enjoyed nice results. It is a quite simple solution and works well!
Lion,
what kind of material did you use for the draw bars? Also how did you attach them?
Dave
LION couples F units with Drawbars. Him also has a power jumper for all wheel pickup. Necessary since LION used gaps to stop locomotives in the storage tracks.

I don't own any Athearn RTR F units but if they still use the same coupler mounting as the blue box, it usually takes some effort to get a good proper KD coupler mounted and especially close coupled. The American Ltd kit listed earlier is the only commericial part I know of that is made to help ease close couple mounting of Kadee couplers.

This is the best close coupling system for the Athearn RTR/Blue Box F unit:

DAVID FORTNEY I have a set of Athearn RTR F7's that I would like to couple a little closer then they do. What kadee coupler would you recommend?

I used #33 on My Athearn BB A & B units...one on the rear of the A with a #5 for the nose and the B has one on the front & rear....I also have the Walthers bellows diaphragms on them....but all My curves are over 32'' radius. I also have the close coupler conversion kit for My Stewarts, which are freight AB's, no diaphragms.
