Beautiful place Maine is, I've been there twice and one day hope to go back.
The lobster, the vegetable beef soup at the Boom Chain Restaurant in Greenville, more like a stew than a soup, majestic Moosehead Lake, and NOW the two-foot gauge museums popping up!
I just joined the forum and this is my initial post. I started in the hobby back in the mid-1950's when my father got me a set of Lionel O-Scale. He was just starting in HO with Varney kits back then & I still have some of the kits he built.
Since then I have been in and out of the hobby numerous times. I went from the Lionel to HO, then to HOn30, then N, then HOn2 ½, then HO again, and now ON30. I managed to start 3 layouts and finish none and did a couple of dioramas.
I'm mostly interested in building structures & rolling stock. Not especially skilled but I have fun at it.
I have been interested in Maine 2-footers for 20 years or so (I live in Central Maine which helps, I suppose) and that's my current (On30) direction. No layout yet but expect it'll be small L or U shaped shelf layout depicting a fictional but hopefully plausible railroad built around the mining of “Sodalite” which is an actual semi-precious mineral found in only a few places on earth. One of those places is Litchfield Maine.
It'll probably end up being a hodge-podge of rolling stock based on various Maine 2 foot RR's dragged around by Bachmann Porters and maybe a Forney to lend a more prototypical flavor. I won't have space for large radius curves – hence the Porters.
I've been lurking for a while & am looking forward to participating in the forum where I can. I'm impressed by the quality of much of the work you folks do & look forward to learning from you.
