How to restore a Youtube video?
Posted by hon30critter on Friday, October 7, 2016 2:16 AM

I screwed up.

I thought I had three copies of my video of my 25 ton Grandt Line switcher on my Youtube channel. I decided to delete two of them. Dumb move!

The video now shows as being deleted in my MR posts but I can still bring it up in my history file. Is there a way to restore the video to my Youtube channel?

Second question:

How do I post a video from my Youtube channel to the forums so that it shows up as an actual video instead of just a link? I have done it a couple of times but I can never remember how I did it. (Seniors moment! Several actuallyDunce)

Thanks guys.

Dave

I'll take a stab at the easy one first, Dave.

Open YouTube and have your video on the active screen. Use Crtl+C to copy the URL in the address bar at the top of your browser's page.

Open MR forum reply and click on the film clip icon:

When the dialog box opens just copy [CRTL+V] the link into the "Source" line. I ignore the others. Click OK.

Then enter whatever text you want as usual. The video frame will only show up as a gray box in your post until you click "Submit Your Reply.

Above is what the typical Youtube URL looks like (I don't know your Youtube name so I just grabbed a sample video).

Here it is as an active pane inserted as described in the instructions above.

For the lost YouTube video. As I understand it, you had three duplicate videos? Can YOU still play the video in your YouTube channel? It seems to me that you have only "broken" the link to the particular copy of the video you wanted to link to.

Just open the MR thread reply that you had the link in and edit, using the above instructions and the film-clip icon, so that the new link is now active.

I hope that makes senseWhistling The same thing can happen to photos if you move the original location of that photo. You would have to go back and update the link to the correct URL to that particular photo.

It is really irritating to me to look at past posts that have little red X boxes, or similar because the original poster has either dropped the photo host or no longer keeps the account active. Of course, in some cases, poor health (or worse) can be a contributing factor Sad

Hope that helps, Ed

Ed:

Thanks for your help.

I decided to go back to my own video files and copy the original video to Youtube again. That got the video back on Youtube so I can put it on the forums, but unfortunately it doesn't restore the video to the threads where it was shown previously. I'm not going to worry about that because the video was posted almost a year ago. I figure there will be very few people, if any, trying to view it today.

Lesson learned!

Thanks again.

Dave

This a test to see if I can post the video properly again.

Nice! Yes

I noticed your earlier videos were titled with the date of filming or uploading. You have the right idea in your latest one to make the title descriptive so that it will have more "hits" when potential viewers search for key-words.

Glad you got back in the saddle, Dave...

Ed:

I truly am a dinosaur when it comes to modern technology (i.e. anything in the past 20 years). Nothing ticks me off more than when somebody decides to 'update' their website and I have to figure it out all over again! I'm still trying to figure out Windows 10.

However, there is a faint light at the end of the tunnel. Recently I have actually been texting my son and his girlfriend!!! Don't laugh! I had resisted texting for years because my somewhat large fingers constantly hit the wrong letters. It was very frustrating. However, after a little practise, I now find that I can text no problem. I'm amazed!!

Recently paleontologists discovered dinosaur footprints in Mongolia that were almost five feet wide. I think they were mine.Laugh

All the best!

Been there! Done that!!

Like I suggested on another thread, we should start a club. But then we would all forget why we joined the club and so nothing would happen. At least we wouldn't pose a threat to society!

All the best!
