On our local TV guide:

"Offtrack...Bedding: Doug goes looking for his father at a model train convention and notices his mother with a very seductive Arthur Spooner."

It will be interesting to see how they treat our hobby!

Ever see the episode of Third Rock From the Sun, when he started playing with model trains. Made us look pretty pathetic, but I can laugh at myself. It was really funny.

Well it was about a railroad nut who had some Lionel trains - not real model trains.

Incoming!

That's okay, you can probably get away with it over here. I don't think a lot of regulars from the Classic Toy Trains Forum hang out here (except Elliot).

Well you didn't really miss too much. Doug's father was in town for the 'train show" and was hoping for the "gold caboose" award. He opened a metal attache case that held a Lionel steam engine - less tender - that he hoped to win the contest with. At the show the father was seen operating a Lionel layout. There was another one behind him. Father had to leave to pay attention to his wife, and he let Doug run his trains for the first time in his life. When Doug was little the dad would not let him touch the trains because "he didn't have a license". So Doug ran the train using the ZW transformer at full speed. It rounded a corner, derailed ,showering the scenery with sparks. This caused the layout to burst into flames. Doug was in deep do-do. That's about it as I remember!

Just to let you guys know, some of us from the CTT forum do drop by and read. And I am proud to be a Toy Train Operator.

Elliot - you really didn't miss much.

Bad Part - How many will think that toy trains can cause a fire like that [?]

I am a person with a very active inner child. This is why my wife loves me so. Willoughby, Ohio - the home of the CP & E RR. OTTS Founder www.spankybird.shutterfly.com

Hey, last time I checked, my 'scale model' trains weren't real either. So I guess they're actually 'toy trains' also. [:0] Okay, I know I'm not supposed to say that. Please don't kick me off the forum for admitting that I play with trains. [:D]

Thanks for the update Bob. Now I don't feel so bad. I've got to admit, we as train lovers can take a lot of crap from television. I'm still trying to get over the Addams Family.[swg]

I think that this may be right on target:

I saw a little of the program but watched the History Channel program about the development of toilets. Did y'all know that the "water closet" as we know it was not invented but largely popularized by a man named Thomas Crapper and that's where the term derived from since his name was on all of the products.

I always thought that the term had another origin. But Mr. Crapper was first (Maybe).

And as always.........the guys from the CTT forum should always feel welcomed and valued here.

I've gotten track plan ideas from O gauge and O scale layouts that I've seen at train shows or club pictures. So there's always something that we can learn from other scales.

Wouldn't it be nice if just once the writers really knew about what they were writing about? What erked me was that once again we hobbyests were potraid as unfeeling toward what is really important. Our families.
