What a day, what a day.
Yard Wars Got a late start, Sue was out doing some running. So I spent a hour laying in bed loving on Sparkie the Rocket Dog. Got another section of old fence cut down, only have 6 feet to go! Hard part was cutting out the last small tree. It was much larger that I thought.While cutting it down was not that bad. Dragging it out on the other hand was harder. It was a twisted into a odd shape. I had to cut off sections of it to drag out to the front. Need to trim off some of the braches so they could get it in the chipper. While I was doing it, my battery died in the Black & Decker Alligator. Back up battery was in the drill and it was all most dead as well. So I was done for the day.
Wife Front I swear I wish she find a boy friend and leave me! Seems like nothing I do can please her, over re-acts to everything, everything is the worst, finds new things to worry about (her hobby), everything is to hard for her to do and compains that we don't have nice things! If she would have gotton off her dead butt and worked like I wanted her too now that she is 65 she could have gotton Social Securety.
But Noooo, that would be to hard! She is 65 and only made $13,000 for her whole life? When I was in my prime and clearing $3500 a month 25 years ago we did well. Well that was then and this is now and I am hanging on by my finger nails.
What set this off is I bought frozen onion rings, mirco-wave able burrsel spouts and pre-made Garlic Toast. She complained that she had to stick the toast in the oven, nuke the burrsel spouts and bake the onion rings!
Well I done with the Flo and BBQ is done.

Great train day. Got three more strips installed on the elevator lead. Closer and closer. Met a great fella named Abe and got an invite to join a local n-scale club. Sounds like a blast! Top it all off with a bowl of popcorn while people in the forum yell at each other about Bluetooth, laugh riot!
Off to bed to get non-sleep. Anyone got any infant-sized corks? Or quality earplugs?

We won´t be having anything fancy, just the typical end of the month food, when the wallet is empty and so is the refrigerator. Well, when one has little, one gets used to having a lot of month left at the end of the money!

The yellow bus in the above picture will eventually be replaced by a nicer one, more detailed and more prototypical one. The Swiss Postal Service PTT never owned a Daimler-Benz bus like this one, but favored a Swiss brand called Saurer. A little birdie has told me that there might be one in the mail for me as a birthday present....
Looks a lot nicer and I am eager to see it!

Thanks for the kudos, JaBear. While photographs often reveal what one intends to hide, they can be also merciful by allowing to crop things "out of the way". All I can say about mine is that they are not the result of any photoshopping... I wouldn´t know how to handle that! I tried GIMP once, but was lost soon.
I take a certain pride in having turned the "ugly" part of the layout into something quite easy on the eye.
Talking about good things in small parcels, why do girls know that wisdom from the age of three on and men hardly ever learn it?

Its gonna be one of those days. Got to w**k and realized I had left my phone at home drove back home 1 hour trip and then the inside door was LOCKED and I didnt have the key broke into my own home ( I build them I know how to get in with least amount of damage ) grabbed the phone, Raced back to sit in longer lines of stop and go traffic mean time I am getting calls "we need you where are you ?" and it is already blazing HOT All this and it isnt even 10am !
One bit of good news. Thye have my father sitting up ! Last night he recieved a full night of sleep. Today is (hopefully) his last surgery for a while.
Henry - What kind of lasting effects are there from the drugs they use to knock one out during surgery ?

Ulrich .... Your layout looks fantastic. The bus you will receive sounds interesting.
Below are progress photos of my current scenery project. ... I am trying out a fast and easy method for rock strata with foam insulation. My previous rock strata are made from broken plaster which looks good but take a lot of time.
The first photo shows the insulation pieces stacked and held together with construction adehesive. I have worked some drywall mud into crevices. Later I shape the surfaces with mostly horizontal strokes with knives and wire brushes.
The second photo shows some painting progress with lighter colors. First, I painted it with flat white latex paint. Then I applied watered down acrylic paint. I do one layer at a time with thin washes, and I wait for each color to dry before applying the next one.
The last photo shows the darker colors were added. Again, it is thin washes one color at a time and waiting for each to dry before applying the next color.
Next, I will be adding vegatation such as trees, shrubs, and weeds.

You do know if you are retired she can draw off your SS don't you. It's not a full SS but it can be up to 50% of what your drawing. the only thing is you need to be receiving yours first. ( I think once you apply she can apply against yours ) Theres no retro to it but you could do that starting from when she applies seeing you have already.

Dad is currently undergoing his last surgery right now they are installing plates in his head/face where the bones were broken. This is good news because they consider this cosmetic surgery, therefore all of the life saving surgery is over with. He is very alert and even has been joking. I am so thankful. I love my father and have so much respect for him. I owe so much to him for who I am, that I cannot ever repay what I would owe him for being such a great dad to me.

YGW - no, not T scale, that´s 1/450 or only about a third of N scale. It´s not even N scale, just ordinary HO scale narrow gauge on 12mm track, representing metre gauge.

Yard Wars I was out side at 9:00 AM which is early for me. Most of the time I was soaked with sweat, did no seem that hot but my body thought it was. Well the last of old fence is down! Got some of it cut up and hauled away!

Train Front Went to K-10 model trains to exchange Inter Moutain 36" wheels for the needed 33 wheels. Bought 4 packs of Kadee # 5's and now have 3 packs of inter moutain 33 wheels for the next B&O coal cars. Brought home yet another Accurail ACF 3-Bay Hopper (should have bought all of them at one time) and a Athearn Chessie B&O Caboose.
I did talk my self out of buying any new engines! Found a few more B&O Proto 2000 engines and came close on two Chessie B&O SD 7's, I like SD 7's. Now if they where straight B&O, they would be sitting here in front of me now!
YGW Sorry to hear about the bad work day but to hear about your daddy doing better! Far as the B&O PA's (or where they shark nose?) they are going through a was station, so that is steam.

YGW it's called post operative cognitive dysfunction. Fancy words meaning the patient is not as mentally sharp as before. It is vaguely defined as occuring in the elderly and lasting for months before they return to normal. The exact cause is unknown.
Toby is a mix, beagle, coonhound and a touch of lab. This will cool everyone off. We just had the front come through, temp is now 77 but the humidity is 92%---air you can wear.

I don't think they allow swimming or wading in the natural pool at the bottm of the falls. There is a large swimming pool in the park though.
Spent a large portion of the day finding out why the Divisions request to move to a different Region didn't make it to the National NMRA Meeting for a vote. I won't go into detail here, but will just say, I'm not a happy man!" Now it will be Spring of 2017 before National decides whether we can move or not!

Cuda you use to be able to retire and then when her money started coming in you could pay it back and then retire later when you want. All with out leaving your job at 62 1/2 I think. Me I'm classified as unemployable by the V.A. so I can draw SS now and my wife is drawing off of mine. I'm thinking thou I heard they did away with that but you may need to check on that at that time

On the work front, I have tomorrow and Saturday off so I'm going swimming if the weather's nice. Then I have 13-days on, including one day where I work a double shift. I'm going to try and get some MR stuff done if possible during those two days. Namely replace broken/missing parts, finish another X29 kit, and, and add detail parts to much of the rolling stock. Sergent couplers, Intermountain semi-scale wheels, and various detail parts. Eventually I'll get to weathering the rolling stock too.

I didn't think I would buy the last 3 engines that I have (An S-4, the GP30 and the SD45). My engine buying seems to happen when I get bored and start trolling eBay. (At least the GP30 was that. The S-4 I talked myself into for operational flexibility. The SD45 was a case I decided I needed another engine in NP paint.) I think those take me up to 25 or 26 engines.
Freight cars seem to be the same way. I have a BN RBL that should come tomorrow (Friday). I also have a pair of BN bulkheads on bid as well. I should have a new gondola coming the end of next month or the beginning of September. I don't even want to know how many freight cars I have.
Between the freight cars and the engines, I probably have at least one engine or car from every major manufacturer over the last 25 years or so.

Just got back from New Orleans, spent 5 days there for our 30th wedding anniversary. YGW, sorry about your father's injury, hope he recovers fully, quickly. Congratulations, Ulrich, you have 2 years on us. Ken, you are making good progress on the yard, what are you going to do when you get finished? Besides celebrate? Daughter heads back to college on Sunday, so proud of her, but already starting to miss her. Son starts his final college football camp next Thursday. Time flies...

It´s a bit of an awkward day! Not as hot as in the past days, but still too humid for me to feel comfortable. Another "I won´t be doing much" day!
tin can - happy anniversary and welcome to the club of marital dinosaurs! Hardly a couple reaches this amount of years nowadays, we may be the last generation that at least attempts to make marriage last a lifetime. My parents made it up to 62 years!
After running the afternoon train on my layout, I thought I should try my luck with that rural road leading to the silos - desperately needing a grade crossing! Not much of an exercise, just piling up a bit of sand, shaping it with a flat brush, wetting it with "wet water"and using an eyedropper to apply diluted white glue. I still have bits and pieces of veneer left I will be using to make the boards filling the gap between the rails. What I also need is Swiss-style crossbucks. There is a kitchen counter business in Switzerland making them, but at Swiss-style prices. $18 a pair is not really a bargain! That will have to wait for some time!

Looking at the picture I saw the missing paint on the masonite board I use for the platform - it´s been painted by now!
I am awaiting a delivery (also a present for my upcoming birthday) of some scenic materials and figures. I thought adding some "life" to the bridge and the chapel would be nice, so I will place a bridal pair, some kids and a Catholic priest in front of the chapel and a photographer a little further down on the bridge. Adding the sound of an organ playing Mendelssohn´s Wedding March while the chapel bells are ringing would be overdoing it a little, wouldn´t it?

Hey all. This evening I will be sitting with my father from 6pm to 8am tomorrow. I have Friday nights grave yard shift. I had to laugh at my one of my family members the other day. Him and my father watched Fox news for the evening. Yep he must be back on the mend!
Ulrich - Hmm the wedding march is played when teh bride comes in not outside ( at least here it is done that way ) then they play the bells ( in some churches) I think just the bells would be good. In rehgards to "almost N scale I still think that is amazing detail at so small a scale. Heck when one takes a photo it is amazing how much "sin" or imperfections shows up in the photos ! Your pictures looklike the work is perfect ! I take my hat off to you.

I have already been emailing back and forth to several people on the Division, NMRA goings on. We may actually get this moving yet! Some good questions and several main players that are the ones who need to help get this dione have now joined in. I have also emailed all the other officers of my division to ask for input as well. Man, I will be glad when this is done and over with......
Did drive down to the post office to get a Birthday card in the Mail to my sister in Florida. She is turning 77 next Monday. She is the one with stage 4 cancer, BTW. At this point she is at least stable and the treatments are keeping it a bay.... Called the Painter that I want to come and do some outdoor painting and cleaning for me. He hasn't called back yet. Likely will be late this afternoon or next Monday... Way too namy things going on around here as usual!

Why Ulrich, I think that would be a great idea. Just don't include that abomination by R. Wagner! You know the one from an Opera of his where the "poor, sweet" girl is basically forced to marry the "Hero" whom she has never met, can't ask who he really is, and why he is there to save her... Yep great basis for a marriage...... LOL You will need at least a 6" subwoffer along with the midrange and tweeter to get some good fidelity. Another instance where the sound from an HO locomotive just can't make it!!!

Just as a clarification, the gondola is a new release from Athearn that I have been waiting for since January. It is also on a card that is intended to be my railroad budget. A small amount is put on the card every paycheck and that allows me to save for big stuff or I can get small stuff as needed. ( Not that I have been sticking to that completely. But it is helping.)
It all goes back to the fact I don't have an LHS. If had to guess 80-85% of the items I have were Internet (eBay) purchases. Therest were Walthers or other mail/Internet hobby shop, the occasional brick & mortar hobby shop and the even rarer swap meet.

Top of the blistering hot day to ya! Around our normal 95+ degrees here. Never a rain cloud to be seen. Or any other for that matter. I swear, when this planet shapes up enough for aliens to finally want to visit this rock, this will be known as the "beach planet". ALWAYS blooming sunny! ALWAYS!
Bad enough everyday is a blinding bright, hot, day. Now im starting to develop heat rashes on my arms from the exposure. What I wouldnt give for just one cloud. Just one! At least ONCE a decade would be nice! I can tolerate heat. But does it always have to be sunny? Every freaking day!

Ulrich - Congrats fella, the layout is looking really nice. BTW, I love that style of bus. Youd probably know more than I would but in the Clint Eastwood movie - "Where Eagles Dare", is the bus used the same? Kinda looks like it but its hard to tell with that "Rio Grande" style snowplow on the front.
The body style is just an awesome design. I love the retro styling it exudes.

In General - Folks, as you know today is the 29th. A year ago Microsoft released iWindows 10 for free. Today is supposedly the last day you can get it for free. I cannot stress to you enough about the DANGERs of loading iWindows 10 on your machines. There is a reason MS had to force it on you for free! Think about that!
Some of you know Im in the IT field, some of you dont. For whats its worth, if you want the inside information about iWindows 10 - DONT BE A VICTIM! DO NOT load this operating system!
As your friend and fellow Railfan I cannot emplore you enough to heed this warning. Please take this seriously. Loading iWindows 10 WILL cost you! Not in getting iWindows 10 - the trouble maker is free (until midnight tonight supposedly). Its getting out from under the mistake of loading iWindows 10 that will cost you DEARLY!
Now, on to good news.....
Rail front - While picking up an iWindows 10 machine today to be reloaded ofcourse, on my way out what do I catch? A trio of CSX GE units basking in the freezing 100+ degree temperature. Just purring away idling, waiting for me to take some photos. Atleast I hope they were CSX, it was so blindingly bright it was hard to see those 4' tall letters in dark blue even with shades on.
Not only did i snap a few shots off, i managed to get some recording time and a video of the train pulling off. This time the video took! As a bonus, from a pile of rotting old ties thrown down along side the right of way i picked a date nail. Too rusty to see the date though.
All in all a good day for a spur of the moment Railfan event. Hope you all have a good safe weekend. See yall next week!

Good evening, diners. It has been a verible weather day after frying on the lake for the last three days. Spent three days fishing with a family from SE Montana. One excellent day of fishing for Northern Pike, my specialty and two days fishing for walleyes. Sent them home with limits of both species. The only draw back was I felt like I had been totally fried after three days in the summer sun even thow it was not hotter than 80 degrees.
YGW, sorry to read about your father. Prayers for continued healing.
CN Charlie, look for Amisk Lake, southwest of Flin Flon. Don't remember any Macleod stores in the Flin Flon area but have seen them in southern Manitoba. Thanks for the info on the roundhouse in PA. The one in Dauphin has been well maintained since becoming a city garage. Only its shape gives away its former use.
Nice gentle rain this evening helping cool off things. Hope for cooler weather tomorrow as I want to work on a boat tomorrow, part of my 1:1 modeling. Hope all or Canadian friends enjoy the holiday weekend. Will probably take in an old-timers hockey game tomorrow.

Douglas Well you know me, Mirco Soft will have to pry my XP Pro from my dead figuers! My current problem with the replacment computer with XP Pro is I cannot get it to go on line. Do I have to go to control panel and tell the computer where the modem is hooked up? I am using the cable that looks like a big telehone cable. Either Net?
Going to fix a Old Duch Hopper and build a Accurail Hopper, so later.
