Dave:

I had thought of making a cone out of sheet metal but I'll give the pie plate trick a try first. We discovered today that the squirrels have no problem climbing the pole either.

Hey, now I get to buy a pie!!!YesDinner Let's see - blueberry? or cherry? or lemon meringue? pecan? Better go for one of each so I will have extra pie plates. Sounds reasonable to me!Smile, Wink & GrinLaughLaughLaugh

I have seen wire attached to a feeder pole, fastened to a door bell transformer that was in the "ON" positiion. Tree rats never came back. I use a .22, when I have enough in the freezer I make a pot pie.

First 3 day weekend since March.

Accomplishment goal:  As next to zero as I can make itBig Smile

Went thru the GP30 fleet who put on a glorious show at the train club for the boy on Fri nite w/ a 61 car train(he had to have a long train).  Need to tweak the sound settings, but mechanically they were flawless and pullers, old blue box P2K(DH165 in all 3, and Soundbug 006 in 2 of them).

Actually got out and pumped about 9 gallons of weed/grass killer on the gravel parking for the apt. over the garage.  Also dragged a huge branch out of the way.  Lost about a 30ft branch from one tree and had another tree crack almost clean thru at the base.  I'm tired and not at work, its not gonna fall on the house, so its gonna stay there for a bit lol.  Storm got ugly wind wise for awhile about a week back.

I use a .22

I'm in a residential neighbourhood so using .22 would kind of risky. In fact, being in Canada, it would get me arrested pretty quick too. However, slingshots are quite acceptable so that's what we use. Instead of filling the backyard full of steel shot we use dried chick peas. Unfortunately their somewhat irregular shape means there is precious little accuracy, but its still fun blasting away at the unwanted wildlife. Occassionally we actually hit something!

G'day all...

Pour me a tall cold one thanks Flo...

Been a hectic week and weekend...The wife got on a plane last Wednesday bound for Karratha in the Northwest here. Off on holidays she was, with her oldest friend who now lives up there. Not sure if leaving us three lads alone without supervision was one of her best decissions, but we have managed to feed ourselves and no one has been arresated...yet...Angel

I have had a week off between jobs so we headed out camping and gave the old 4 wheel drive a good run on the soft stuff. Had a real good time catching up with the local 4wd club out on the hills. The young fella was stoked to play with the camp fire and stay up late with dad. Dont get to hang out much with the lil fellas when work is busy.

Made it home by Saturday night in the torential rain for a bath and dinner. The oldest had two birthday parties to attend today...crikey what an ordeal... a bit of planning and we got through it with our heads still attached...Picked up the wife this arvo from the airport as well...she complemented us on the house not being burned to the ground...I'll take that one... so I am finally getting to sit down an chill out.

Gotta hand it to her...it may not be the most physical job but the whole motherhood thing can be a real brain burner. All is now back to normal and we have ordered some takeout chinese so I better be off to pick it soon.

Hope you all are well...will pop in again soon

Take care all...

Oooroo.

Found this nice lil pic of a switcher just out of Portland...enjoy

Cheers...

Good morning ...

I'll have coffee and a donut, please.

Ken .... I know what you mean about making such a decision, but actually in this case, it is Sharon making the choice. Of course, we are praying for her, and there will be no need for such a thing. You may wish to talk with John Boy, too. Sharon has an issue with her esophagus and so does John Boy. ... John Boy now lives with a feeding tube because his esophagus is not functioning. He can't swallow.

YGW It was someone's collection of cabooses on a siding on the fringes of Baltimore.  It fronted a main road and some were used as small businesses like antique stores.  They didn't last as businesses because it was not an ideal location.  One day they put them on trucks and moved them out.  Supposedly sold to one or more "private buyers"   More pics of the cabooses and the move are here  http://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?2,1541350

edit Sorry the first time I looked at the link, I could enlarge the thumbnail pics, now it wants me to register.  After I give them my contact info, they will tell me what it's going to cost.   They can pound sand.

Ken, your daughter has done the right thing by taking you out of the loop.  When she gets out of the hospital, and we must all have faith that she will pull through in fine shape, remember to thank her for that love.

When my Mom was in her final days, I read her papers, including her "living will" in which she expressed her desire to not be kept alive by "extraordinary means" once it was clear that she would not recover.  It fell to me to talk to the doctor about this, and let him know her wishes once she lost consciosness for the last time.

I was grateful for her personal direction on this.  It wasn't in the hands of a friend or a lawyer, and it wasn't in my hands either.  It was, and always had been, her decision.  We were all at peace.

It takes an iron man to play with a toy iron horse.

Good Evening!

Just dropping by to say hello, sit a spell and enjoy some poison Drinks. It´s been an uninspiring day over here, pretty bad weather, a slight headache, just enough to give me a foul mood.

A have started to put a few MR items up for sale at the "Bay". The Minitrix switch motors were sold within 10 minutes! There are a number of other items which will take much longer. Most folks are on vacation and won´t most likely be in the mood for buying train stuff. Selling my train stuff will give me quite a pretty penny, even at a conservative estimation. The proceeds will go into my "get-away" fund, which needs to be sufficient to buy two one-way tickets to somewhere out of here, i.e. Europe.

I´ll be staying at the RC for a few moments to see who will join me!

Gooooood Morning!!!

WowAshamed. How sad and shocked I am. I’m ashamed to say I haven’t even been lurking. Just signed on to the diner this morn and caught a reference to Barry’s passing. My heartfelt condolences go out to his familyAngel. I was, believe it or not, just thinking of him the other day as I was moving some stuff around in the train/tool storage room. Brought the Diner and you guys back to the forefront and why I decided to stop in today in fact. As I moved my little Harbor Freight airbrush I chuckled remembering the airbrush wars we had with shooting that cap around the diner. The Pie-A-Pault wars of course were also remembered as was his fondness for SRP’s (Strawberry Rhubarb PIE) and pretty much anything that was considered food. Aaah fond memories of years gone bySmile.  Had a lot of fun in here with Barry.  And others too of course.

Also see where Ken’s daughter is in need of prayers. You got some from me. I agree with her decision to have a third party responsible. Mom had a DNR, but they brought her back in the ambulance on a machine after 20 MINUTES of no life, just CPR and as she was found so no telling how long before that….(who would do thatConfused), but since she was on life support, someone had to say pull the plug, and that was me. Something Mom didn’t want me to have to do hence her Living Will, but I guess someone has to say yup, do it. Or at least I did. Even though she had no brain activity and it was her wish, it still felt like in my heart I was killing her despite what my brain knew, that I was not. Tuff Crying

Like I said I just clicked on this month so I hope I didn’t miss anything in need of mention.

Update on me, have been busy remodeling the restaurant uptown. Expanded it. Grand reopening was Thursday. Turned out good. If you’re Facebookies, you are welcome of course to view it at Bellatratt on the book of faces. That’s Williamsville, ILLINOIS, not Williamsville, New York. Funny story, someone googled the phone number and came to pick up their pizza. No order we had. They insisted they called and upon checking the number, apparently there is (or was, this was a couple three years ago) as similar named place in Williamsville New York and they called and ordered from that place in New York.Laugh Anyway, they took some pictures. Been doing that off and on for the last couple months. Had to re plumb/rewire and cut the door through4 layers of brick to join the two builts…, I didn’t do that. A man has got to know his limitationsYes. Then closed last week to tie the two together and redo the old restaurant part sans the bar. Didn’t lay the carpet either. Nope. Knees don’t like using the kicker anymore.  Among other things of course, I did get some shelving and some drywall up in Toddland (of which I’m king). HmmI might just post a before and after pic to show yes, I am making progress. Slow progress, but progress. Found my fishing stuff amongst the clutter so been doin a bit of fishin tooStick out tongue.

As to renaming the diner, looks like I missed the vote but FWIW, I like the idea of keeping the name and adding the RIP track post.

Welp, best get a movin’. Gotta make a lasagna for diner, then w*rk at 5.  I’ll try and not make myself as scarce in the future, it’s been good to talk to ya’s

Todd .... It's great to see you again. ... Was that a recent experience with your Mom? Sorry to hear about it. .... My sisters and I went through a similar experience with my mother in Alabama a few weeks ago. Her living will spares us from having too much guilt. She was 96, and I miss her now. Another difficult situtation for us is with one of our daughers. She lives in eastern Michigan. The father of her children has become an alcoholic and a drug addict. He can be violent and has threatened our daughter.  We have been driving back and forth to MI to assist our daughter. The courts are disappointing. They are mandated to protect the best interest of the children (safety in particular) above all else. However, their mindset is to compromise between two parents who do not agree. It's terrible how it works.... I am continuing to work on my layout when I can. The sanity breaks in the train room help me. ..... I would love to stop in and visit at your restaurant some day. ... Todd, I hope you can be a regular Diner here again.

Everybody .... Does anyone have time to compile a list of forum members whose journeys on earth are completed for the "RIP Track" ?

Happy Model Railroading, everybody.

Mostly you need a doctor's order. The DNR notice tells the Doctor what you want, but the doctor has to write the order.

But once you call an ambulance you have called the code. The ambulance cannot withold treatment. At that age and in their final hours it i IMPARITIVE that they be on HOSPICE care. You call Hospice instead of the ambulance, and they will come out to be sure that she is comfortable, and they will pray with you and hold your hads  during her passing. Whe a Doctor admits a patient to HOSPICE care, they have then a properly signed DNR order.

When Br. Basil fell on the floor dead, I had to call 911 because nobody expected him to die. They asked if they should send an ambulance, and I told them no, that no ambulance was required. Of course they sent one anyway. Fortuantely I was a member of that ambulance squad for more than 20 years and I am a Registered Nurse, and so all they did was to take vital signs 0/0 0 0, and filled out their paper. Eventually the Sheriff arrived but by that time I went to my offive and pulled out his shigned Living Will, and while nod a "legal" DNR order, there was not too much anybody could do about it, he at been dead 45 minutes by then, and the Sheriff heaved an audible sigh of relif when I cavve him a copy of the patient's wishes.

Mostly a Living Will only tells providers what you would LIKE, it is not binding on them, it is not a legal document, nor one that a physician or an ambulance crew can hang their hats on. Without a Current Physician's Order, they MUST go through the motions. (CYA, you know).

Again, HOSPICE is the way to go when a person enters the "last six months of life." That is fully binding on the medical community, and of course, you would have known NOT to call the Ambulance.

If the patient was on Hospice, they would have called your funeral home for you  and that would have been that. Dad was on Hospice when he passed away, and Mom was eternally grateful for the services that tehy provided to dad and to the family.

Everyone here at the monastery has signed a durable power of attorney which includes a durabpe power of attorney for health care written into it, and they also have a Living Will, but this document only tells us herae at the Abbey what a monk wants done for him. If death was an expected outcome, we did not have to tell the Sheriff, we only needed to call the undertaker, If the death was unexpected it becomes a Corroners case, and the Sheriff must be called. If Death was expected, it must be assumed that the patient was under a physicians care, must have been seen within the past 6 months, and the physician will be called on to write the medical part of the death paperwork.

About Hospice: The Docotr needs to certify that the patients condition STATISTICALLY marks him with six moths to live. Once so admitted, the patient may linger as many as 15 morths and still be covered.

Hi all, been a long time since I been in here. Sorry to hear about Barry he will be missed.

Since I been reading back a bit I see there has been a discusion on name. Originally or at least back in 2006 it was Elliott's dinner the original person who started it. and it mainly stayed like that till after I left and got into the correct forum to the trains I was running at the time.

Which brings me to my visit, I need some info on the diamitor of n scale track. My space for a while at least is very limited and I really cant even put down O27 track ( 27" diamitor ) I understand you all use radius which I believe is half of the size of the circle so I would have to double it.

Glad to see Flip is still coming around.

Hope all doing well

Evening all,,, Cloe I’ll have a tall barely pop please.
Thought I might chime in on the diner name, would have done it sooner, but me n Mother been up to Springfield for the last 5 day. I know ain’t been round for a good spell, but I had a couple thing ta thing ta say
I’ve been round here since 2004 or 6, I think, anyway it been a long spell. I go with Elliot’s, he started and it should continue to honor him. I can remember the old days of all night parties, like the time when Cleo got her backside pinched and she hit Flip and he didn’t do it [he still thinks I did it, but I’ll never tell].  In memory of post is just fine, but there be a whole lot posters from past years not listed, that posted most everyday, an those folk should be listed also, not just those from the last year ur so.
GARRY,,, I’m glad ya mentioned Jerry, he was a good friend since 68 0r 69, when he started for WKZI the radio station near me. Listen to most every day when I was round a radio. When he signed off at noon [right afore Paul Harvey], he always,” hope ya’ll have a gooden”. When he started post here, I’d already been using that line, he said it was ok for me to go ahead n use it.
KEN,,,, Mine n Mother’s thoughts be with your daughter  and all the family
TODD,,,  was just up your way n tried callin you a couple times bout coffee. Oh well, seen ya been busy. Maybe catch you in a couple week, when we’re back up there i think for Legion stuff
I need to go back n read some more n catch up with everybody to post more.
The reason for being up north was the American Legion convention, which always enjoyable for us with seeing friends we only see now n then.
Also pleased with those we elected were longtime friends. Best is we installed the first female commander for Illinois. Sadly, her n the senior vice are both Navy, but I’ll try not to hold that against them [that’s joke son, a joke]

Thoughts n prayer for those in need, n hope ya’ll has a gooden

Hello everyone,

Worked yesterday (12-8 Today off and tomorrow off, back on Tues.

Ken: So sorry about your daughter, my prayers are with you. Angel

It's time for "Laughter at 45 After". Big Smile

One of my friends on facebook shared a video from Youtube to thier timeline titled "Pokemon GO Fight Caught on Camera."  I checked it out...

This girl set up a lure module on somebody's lawn and a guy walks over to her and starts calling pokemon by the wrong names. I found myself laughing over this.

His List:

Bulbasaur=Onion Turtle

Geodude=Punchy Rock

Meowth=The Cat with the Long *** Arms

Ekans=Purple Crap (Ekans is actually snake spelled backwards)

Diglet=Floor Crap

Dugtrio=Three Floor Craps

Pikachu=Pikachu (everybody knows this one)

Weepinbell=Almost a Pear

Weedle=Party Weiner (I cracked up on this one) Laugh

Beedrill=Big D*** Bee

Pokemon GO is a videogame designed to work on your IPhone or Tablet, you just download the app from the Apple store and you're ready to go.

This guy was trying to be humorous, but that girl found it offensive (It's just a game!)  They later made up, but I still find this funny. Big Smile

Evenin'folks!

Janie, I'll have a large slice of Blueberry Pie á la mode, and a Barry sized Root Beer Float tonight.  Thank you Ma'am!

Oh man, am I tired tonight.  Long day at the museum, but a good one.  Good crowd and lots of happy faces all day.

We started out the morning with a problem....  It seems we had an unknown hotbox yesterday on the old 1921 NYC Caboose.  Today we checked and one journal on the old caboose was completely dry and the wick had burned up.  Nobody smelled or noticed any problem during our runs...  So we started by switching out the caboose to another track and only used the other two cabeese in the train.  Hopefully no major damage done to the truck!  They think what happened was that the wick in the journal clogged and the oil couldn't get to the axel.  Other than that the day went very smoothly.

This week will be catch up with stuff getting done last week, and getting ready for the NMRA Division Picnic.  We are holding a joint one out at the Finger Lakes Live Steamers next Saturday with the CNY Division to the East of us.

I am proud to admit I am a total computer dinosaur, and I can say with a great degree of certainty that the Pokemon Go app will never find its way onto my iphone!

That's not a criticism of those who are playing the game (unless they are falling off cliffs of course). Its just a statement about my mental state. It exhausts me to even think about participating in such an endeavour.

Now, where the heck did I put my cane?!?

Garry I sent you a PM.

ATSFGuy

Pokemon GO is a videogame designed to work on your IPhone or Tablet, you just download the app from the Apple store and you're ready to go.

Mentioning Pokeman Go, there are a lot of people (at least in Billings) that have mentioned that they are getting a lot more exercise with this craze then they were before. "Gotta Get 'em All" is quite healthful . . . when one doesn't walk off a cliff.

A riddle for the group that are into Pokeman: Why were all the Pikachus, Meowthes, etc attending the dance? (I'll let that stew for a bit before I reveal the answer.)

On the hobby front: Yesterday (a day I took off), I managed to get the GP30 decaled (New nose stripes and new number {the existing number was the wrong size and I changed the preprinted number anyway}) and the plows, m.u. s, and horn attached and painted (the antenna will wait until last). The handrail replacement kit I had bought was useless, confusing and I managed to lose a needed part. I just won a junk (drive issues) bachmann 30 that has what appears to be a good set of the original plastic rails as a replacement. I managed to get the 45's handrails put back together, the shell taken off and the antenna and horn installed and painted. The plow will wait until I get the couplers purchased and installed. I however did paint it while I had everything being painted.

On the layout, I got one more crossing built. (The last one by the turntable.) I was planning to get the last one built but discovered that I needed a different type of tie that was in town rather than on the layout. I then decide to trim a piece of fiberboard for my propane plant area. Given it's on a curve as part of a turning wye, I started to trim it and in the process I decided to take the long piece of flextrack out and put sectional track in as much as possible. That process took a good 2-2 1/2 hours trying to get the track so that it would join properly. I ended up with a 3" straight section, a 1/2 - 15"R section, 3 sections of 15" R, a short piece of flex (which I had to cut two pieces to get it right. More later) and a 1 1/2" track section. I reused the flex section and cut a section to fit. That first section wasn't bent enough and didn't fit properly. I ended up cutting a section out of the middle and with some grinding with my Dremel cutting disk, that piece fit perfectly.

Back to the riddle: Why were all the Pikachus, Meowthes, etc attending the dance? Because it was a Poke-ball!

 Evening Dinners

 Flo, Beer please.

 Work stunk. Only 3 customers all day and did not sell a thing. I would rather made some sales, but if you sell nothing a slow day is the way to go. That what had me so upset yesterday, I was busy and only had $500.00 in sales.

 It was hot today! I had to turn the cars A/C on max to get it some what cool. House was pretty warm as well.

 Yard Wars All day I wanted to work on the rear fence. After I got home with the house being pretty warm I all most talked my self out of working on the rear fence. Stepped out back and while it was hot, there was some shade so what the heck! Yes

 I now have no missing board's on the rear fence! Yes Still have a lot of wood to replaces, but I am getting there. Spent 2 and a half hours cutting out old planks, hauling them out, installing them (by your self a pain in the caboose, but I have found a trick) and painted my side of the fence. Outside was all ready painted.

 I hope to get to Lowes on my next day off and buy 10 more 1"X 6"X8' boards.

 Next project will be cutting down the last 16 feet of old fence.

 Next big project will be cutting down what my wife calls the monster bush. What remains of it is in the first photo.

 Daughter's Health. Far as I know her life is not in danger at this time. The DNR is for the need surgery and only if she is on a Ventalator for more than 3 days. If her heart stops, well they can jump start her! Thank you all for the good thoughts and prayers.

 King of Todd Land Great to see you here in the dinner again! Yes There are more and more GM Folk and I am out numbered now! (OK they are good folks but not great taste in cars) Hope to see you here again, in fact I was thinking of you the other day!

 Well it is late and I am beat so I will see you all Monday.

Did the CBQ go to Billings? I was looking at thier map from American Rails.com and the system had a curve of track in Montana coming up from Lincoln and then shot downward towards Denver, Pueblo and the Texas Panhandle.

ATSF ... Yes, CB&Q ran from Lincoln, NB to Billings and also from Denver to Billings. The line from Denver was CB&Q's subsiderary, the Colorado & Southern. Some of the tracks in MT were owned by NP, and CB&Q operated over them. CB&Q interchanged with both the NP and the GN in Billings.

FRRYKid ... Thanks for trying, but PM's don't work for me. I receive none and can send none. I gave up on trying to change my settings long ago.

Inch ... Nice to see you here. .... I enjoyed Jerry's posts here, and I miss him.

Bill (RT) .... Nice seeing you here too.

I always thought ATSF and CBQ had much better connections that the Rock Island.    Way Better!

If you ask me, The RI had way more track than it needed, after reading the book "Rock Island Requiem". I now see why the RI was weak (the book describes some of the railroad's problems in detail.)

V8Vega

MonkeyBuc do you have off road racing there, I get the idea there is a lot of room for it?

V8Vega... We do have a fair bit of off road racing around the place but it is not as common as it would seem here. There is the Finke dessert race run out near Alice springs(Middle of Australia)run once a year. Most of the racing is done on privately owned agricultural properties due to most of the larger chunks of land being under mining leases and being run by foreign investors. You may get to know Australia as New Asia or little China...The government has pretty much sold it all off. The rest is national parks and reserves which are off limits too...The latest in non government departments is called the Unlock Australia group...Basicly we are being locked out of our own country. The group is fighting to keep what is ours but as drought has been common most Agricultural titles have become Mining leases sold to foreign investment. Sad

Cheers...

Howdy pardners'

cudaken:  Prioroties man.  You keep complaining about the heat and working on a fence when you have the answer right next to you in your backyard.  It has a cover on it and looks not to be in service at this point.  Get that bad boy open, jump in, work on fence and repeat.  That was awesome working outside at my parents back in the day!

Gidday Chloe, just a flying visit tonight, it’s getting past my bedtime especially as I have an early start tomorrow, besides it’s going to freeze again and a warm bed beckons.

If her heart stops, well they can jump start her!

Leave a set of jumper cables in her room for when she wakes up.  No, maybe not.  Laughter might be painful for a while...

Hot again here.  I opened up the windows in my bedroom, first time in a week, to get some air but I'll be closing them again pretty soon.  I'll take a walk, but by lunchtime it will be to hot for a bike ride, so I will take refuge in the gym and do some weights instead.
