It's not too hard, get the right wire makes it easier. Tichy makes phosphor-bronze wire in different sizes, but .020" or slightly larger is about right for O, but maybe someone else can offer a suggestion on that? I like to solder the stuff, because it's easy, but epoxy might work also.

It was suggested earlier that ebay be checked. You may have been thinking "parts" but what was intended was likely to point out you might be able to find another complete caboose for not much. Or one that at least has good handrails, etc for very little. Be patient and choosy and what you need will show at a price you can afford.

Well, no love from Bachmann, nor anywhere else, so I guess if I want a caboose I will have to fabricate the railings and ladders myself. That will be a first.

I hate to say it, but those On30 Cabooses sure look "Fat" compared to the regular plastic cabooses offered in HO.

Hey John,

Thanks for that. Help me out here....what's a "press stud"? When you say "brass signal ladder" do you mean a ladder for a signalling light - this isn't a rolling stock part?

HiDeeCee

Balcony rails easy bend them out of 1/16" bronzing rod could probaly use same for brake wheel rod, brake wheel a press stud.

Could probably use the bronzing rod for grab irons as well.

if 1/16 is wrong size just get the right sized brass rod.

I am sure I have seen a suplier of On30 detail parts that might be usefull

I just can't remember who its not my scale.

O scale  brass signal ladder should be easy enough to find for the end ladders to be made??

regards John

Here are pics of the caboose. The previous owner started to attempt to put a lighting kit in the body. I guess the parts he pulled off "disappeared". The bottom of the car reads, "Bachman" and "china". I also tried looking up Bachman parts and found only loco stuff. The regular O scale didn't have caboose parts either.

I just checked the Bachmann forums On30 parts list. Only loco parts from what I could see.

If you ever fall over in public, pick yourself up and say “sorry it’s been a while since I inhabited a body.” And just walk away.

A search on Google Images for "Bachmann On30 caboose" brought up dozens of photos, including a kitbash of mine that I posted online somewhere.   There are photos of the original short model and the more recent longer "drover caboose".

Bachmann has an excellent parts department, have you tried them?

Parts for On30 Bachman Caboose
Posted by DeeCee on Tuesday, June 21, 2016 3:43 PM

I got this caboose from an estate sale - $5. I figured I could find parts to make it whole again and would give me a mdelling project. I can't seem to find anyone who makes the myriad of details that I need, which are, end railings, grab rails, steps and brake handle. Not having an actual picture I'm not sure what else I'm missing. Does anyone have an idea for a source?
