Thanks for pointing me to Adblocker Ultimage! I had Adblock Plus, which didn´t seem to do trhe job. I now have installed this new Adblocker and will keep an eye on the performance.

The Lion is correct. I've had 'AdBlocker' for over a year and it's wonderful. Some sites object to this but one does have the option of pausing/stopping AdBlocker for a particular domain name.

So if you are using FireFox then then a simple add-on will fix it.

"LION uses FIREFOX... Him added AdBlocker Ultimage (An Add-On) and that seems to have solved the problem."

Click on "tools", in your browser and then open "Add Ons". Search fo and download the AdBlocker Ultimate plug-in. Works fine, problems gone. But write to the suppoer people to let hem know that they are still pumping out baddly behaved adds.

They gotta cut that out.

When the LION started this thread, I thought I was beyond the problems he mentioned, but since a couple of days, this forum has turned my Bugatti Veyron computer into a Ford Model T!

Everytime I open the MR forum, my computer slows down dramatically. At first I thought this is an issue with my browser Firefox 47, but as all other web pages perform as before, I assume there is an issue with the forum software or an incompatibility issue.

I am not amused!

Using a Chromebook with Chrome browser: never had a problem with the MR site itself until yesterday when I couldn't log in.  It's now working fine, don't know what the login problem was? But for the MR site itself, everything has always worked very well for me.

URL for the site is in the upper left hand corner of your browser.

But you do not need that to call Kalmbach, they already know what their URL is.

LION uses FIREFOX... Him added AdBlocker Ultimage (An Add-On) and that seems to have solved the problem. Of course now I can see no ads at all, but then how is that a problem.

I'm glad I read this post. I was having all of the aformentioned problems. I thought my laptop was compromised.

But had already decided to switch to Linux. After installing Linux and Chrome browser, no more problems.

Yep, it got slow again....

Safari is out, Chrome is acting up, but works (for now) still.

FRRYKid
Additionally for those that use Firefox (like me), you might try using the Script Blocker that is available....

Thanks for this suggestion.  I attempted to use it, but don't know how to determine the "url" for this site.

ISSUES went away, but now they are back. The forum keeps crashing the browser. Customer Support is 1-800-533-6644, so if you continue th have problems (like the problem LION) Give them a call, the nice lady there will take your information, and pass it along to customer support or at least to the IT guys. (Glad Im not their IT Guy!) If you got problems, let them know, the more calls the faster they will fix it.

Additionally for those that use Firefox (like me), you might try using the Script Blocker that is available. I find that using that also helps with issues as well. You will have to allow certain scripts but it allows you to block ones that are malicious and also leave ones that just plain aren't needed.

Seems like everyone is having different experiences so I doubt that this will solve all the problems.

For what its worth, recently I have been experiencing a lot of delays posting on and reading the forums, like many others. I was also experiencing delays with my mouse on other programs and things were slow to load in general. Tonight I installed Ad Block Plus for Chrome and suddenly my whole computer seems to be running like it used to - in other words, fast. I'm not getting the "Shock Wave Flash has crashed" messages and there are no delays when typing.

Might be worth a try for those having problems. The only negative that I have found so far is that advertisements attached to news items are being blocked so I can't get to the actual news article. No big deal.

I'm going to cross my fingers in the hopes that the improvement in performance isn't a fluke.

Thanks to Mel and Tom for mentioning Ad Block Plus.

Just Google "Ad Block Plus". There are different versions for different browsers.

Actually, it appears that Kalmbach has fixed the problem, or at least has shut off the offending ads until they can be fixed. For this MUCH THANKS!

Running Windows 8 and Chrome - no real problems except that the site sometimes runs very slowly (as in I'm typing and no text appears for ten or fifteen seconds) - I just put it down to high usage at certain times.

I had this happen a few weeks ago, but it was on the BBC news site. Loading script after script.

So I went back using NoScript and no problems any where since. Though at times I do forget to click the temporarily allow.

LION is IT director for Abbey. My 'puter is not the newest, but it is really up to par 8GB RAM, Win 10 etc etc. Our network is fiber optic with a static IP number with direct access to the backbone. Ours in a Windows shop, I have some linux stuff, but we are moving to 100% Windows 10 except for our servers with are 2008 R2,

There *IS* junk on the MR forum, you can  see the  status bar loading and loading. . In Chrome, we do not get a script error, but you do get a "Shockwave Flash has crashed." and that crashes it for other instances of Chrome that are open, such as I Heart Radio on a diffedrent brower instance.

Needs work guys., neetds work.

Lion How old is your computer?  I realize Lions have no money but Lions being resouceful should be able to speed up an old PC.

BTW I understand why Lion does not have Mac after all Lions want to avoid Safari.

You do not need to reboot your computer... use the task manager to end the Firefox browser.

Edge does not work on my computer, I have bitched to Microsoft, they know about the issues, but do not fix it. It is a known issue that affests many people. Oh well, that is not an MR problem.

Right now I am using Chrome, it is slower than it should be. I think Kalmbach needs to stop all off site ads until the issue can be addressed.

I am using Google Chrome and I am having all sorts of problems with the MR site. Typing a response on the forums takes forever and frequently locks up for several minutes. I keep getting a yellow band across the top of the screen that says Shockwave Flash has quit working. I'm also getting 3rd party ad videos with sound that are totally unrelated to model railroading popping up on the right side of the screen.

None of this is happening on other websites.

Coincidentally, my Internet usage has shot up in the last couple of months. One month it was at least partially the result of my son downloading some games, but that still wouldn't account for the usage. My Internet activity hasn't changed at all for a long time and yet I have gone from about 120 Gb/month in January to 220 Gb in May.

I have Norton 360 on my computer and I am using Windows 10.

I'm running Win 10, IE 11, and have no problems. Also run Firefox, again with no problems. Maybe just lucky?

No problems on my PC running Win 8.1 and IE 11, except for the missing parts of the forum post page that have always been missing.

However, on my IPad, for the past couple of weeks it will not keep me logged on once I leave the site for anohther

Firefox 47 and Avast, no script problems here, an occasional unsafe notice as we dicussed in a now locked thread.

Script errors I do get are related to Adobe Flash running on non-MR pages.  Recent versions of Firefox have been memory hogs, no opinion on this latest version.  Flash is also a memory hog and frequently stalls out my computer.

Getting rid of cookies is probably a good thing.  Avast is blocking 16 trackers on this page.

A clean install of Win 10 worked far better than the upgrade install on my desktop.  My new laptop came with 10 and after a week decided I did not have "authorization" to save files to my usual locations.  I think this was related to One Drive.  No problems since.

I have win7 with Firefox and no problems. I doubt if I will ever upgrade to win10 because of all the games MS is using to get me to upgrade.

I upgraded to 10 and all my problems went away as 7 and 8.1 had issues. I use Chrome and have a delete button for most stuff from CCcleaner.

I am using Opera on my laptop with Windows 10 and Adblock. No problems other than the site loads slowly initially.
