Bachmann 0-4-0T...It won't go, why?

Several years ago, I bought, I believe it was, a bachmann 0-4-0T switcher. It never worked. I know it's more than likely the motor. Got any answers.[?]

That's exactly what this Model Railroader General Forum is. All you have to do is post your question. Choosing an appropriate title helps attract attention. Like in your case, a good title would be "Bachmann 0-4-0 problem". That'll get a lot more specific response than something like a generic 'help me".

There's also the Model Railroader Layouts and Layout Building Forum for questions directly related to layouts themselves.

The Coffee Shop actually isn't the place to ask that type of question. It was created as an "off-topic" kind of place where forum members could just chat. We do talk model railroad stuff too, but out here on the General Forum is the proper place to ask questions of the general forum population.

Guys, the original name of this topic was "The Fix-It Shop". Where you could ask questions about your equipment/layout problems. Ed gave me some guidance, helped me understand alot about this forum. I'm learning about it all.

So, could it be the motor? What type would I need to replace it with? And more importantly, how do I get to it.[?]

I am not familiar with the 0-4-0 you are talking about, but I might be able to help. If you can get the shell off the frame so that you can see the motor, there should be two small wires to the motor from, I believe, wipers on either side of the frame to the backs of the wheels. Connect your transformer output directly to these wires, using small alligator clips. Verify that the motor runs. If it does, your problem is probably that one or both of the wipers is not touching the back of the drive wheels and it isn't picking up current. If the motor does not run connected directly to the transformer, the motor needs attention.

Get this far, then post your observations for what to do next.
