As most of your would already know Walthers will be re-releasing that ATSF El Capitain train. The sets are for an A-B F7 combination and an eight car passenger set. According to the Walthers script this is new tooling for both the engines and also for the coaches. There will also be individual A unit for sale as well.
I do not model the ATSF so this newest release is of no interest to me. It does seem kind of pricy for the set, but there are over 130 individual Prieser figures installed in the train.
Are there not other "Name" trains that modelers have been requesting that still have not been released that perhaps Walthers could have considered?
Thanks for the info.
I would like to comment on the Santa fe F units Walthers sells for its Santa Fe passenger trains. Walthers sells A/B sets or single F-units. That way you can put together an ABA set.
The problem with that is Santa Fe did not operate passenger ABA sets of F3's or F7's.. Only the B units had steam generators, and Santa Fe commonly operated ABB sets. Longer trains would have at least two B-units if there were 4 or more units.
An ABBA set was common for Santa Fe passenger trains.

They should do the Amtrak Silver Star or Silver Meteor from the late 90's to today. They would only need to tool up 4 cars to correctly model the last 2 decades.
Who wants to see Walthers release the ATSF "San Diegan"? I do.
Walthers needs to give the lesser known roads a chance instead of just relying on the same western roads over and over.

They have all the tooling to do everything in the Amtrak non-electric fleet in the last 25 years, except for some of the Heritage bags and the new Viewliner II bags. They practically could just offer "shopping lists" with the appropriate number and types of cars.
My layout models Dearborn Station in Chicago where Santa Fe was the largest and only tenant railroad whereas ownership was split among five other roads - GTW, Wabash, Erie, Monon, and C&EI.
I consider myself lucky to have one of each of these five owner roads. It is very difficult to build a passenger train or consist because so few manufacturers have offered these locos and passenger cars.
I guess that I could focus just on the Santa Fe and buy everything that Walthers puts out but that would mean spending over $1,000 on every Santa Fe name train that they produce. No thanks.
