so hey guy,s.    i had a question.     i am going to get a sp daylight from bachmann.     as some of you may know.   the plug in is very fragile.    so is there a way to remove the plug in and rewire the engine.   cause i don,t wanna deal with the plug in breaking.    can you hard wire the engine?     now i wanna get a nickel plate 2-8-4.    but i think i am gonna run into the same issue.    if it is at all possible can you guy,s tell me how.  and show me some photo,s

Connect the two wires in the two pin connector to the motor if you do not want to use the plug. That will be quite a lot of work though.

I have the Bachmann steamers with the two pin and four pin connectors.

The Bachmann site shows the diagram for the loco so you can open it up.

If you are not ham handed, open the tender and unplug the decoder. Plug in the six pin DC adapter. Just be careful handling the loco and tender.

I'm curious why you think the plugs / connections are "fragile"? I've had a couple of Bachmann steam engines for a decade or more, and never had any problems with the engine-tender wiring connection.

As long as you aren't frequently disconnecting the wires, I don't think it would be a problem. I have one of those daylights, and the wires don't seem fragile at all.

I have an HO SP Daylight 4-8-4 and I too wonder why you think the connectors are fragile, I bought mine in 2010.  Unless they have changed they’re pretty durable.  I changed the supplied decoder because it wasn’t sound and programming a stock Bachmann decoder can be problematic.  I never could get the headlight to work right, it had a mind of it’s own and only worked when it wanted to.

i thought that there was at one point were there was a issue with the plug in,s.   i heard that when you un plug them that there was a good possiblity of the wires breaking inside.    now i don,t know if that is because of frequent pluging un and unplugging.     but this could also be bad info i got.     so i am not shure if they are  fragile.    my apologies everyone.

These plug in's were not designed to be constintly plugged and unplugged all the time. Yes you can plug and unplug many times but I have seen people do this everytime they put them away (they don't fit in boxes right if plugged).

"They Say and I heard" are not always reliable.

If you have to unplug, gently pry the plug out using a small straight jewelers screwdriver. Those screwdriver sets are sold just about everywhere. No tugging the wires.
