Broadway Limited price reductions
Posted by Anonymous on Sunday, November 28, 2004 9:01 PM
][?]Does anyon know why there has been such drastic price reductions on most of the Broadway limited trains.. ie... M1A the MSRP is 299.00 and I have seen it range from 129.00 to 145.00 from reputable train suppliers.[?][?]
Thanks

I raised the same question a few days ago. I've seen the A class for $210 to $240! For a $500 engine, this is pretty freaky. It may have somthing to do with clearing old stock to make room for the K-4s, T1s, 3800s, N&W Js, SD40-2s, and Niagaras.

Hopefully these price reductions will stimulate higher sales. Not that the holiday season is here, BLI's timing might be a good thing as model train sales generally go up in the winter time.

Another plus for BLI's lowering of prices is that MTH is introducing their version of the Pennsy K4. It's more expensive and not as well detailed as the BLI version.

Cheers!

Trainworld sent out a newsletter by e-mail last week, listing a whole bunch of BLI stuff on sale. One that caught my eye was the On30 C-16 for $129.00. I think they were previously around $229.00. Looks like they are all gone, except for some in the Xmas scheme, whose sounds are Xmas sounds - ugh!

Are we seeing a Market Adjustment? Considering the cost of Labour in the making of these there must be some room for sale prices.

Maybe it gives you an idea of the profit margins on BLI.

Well, if sound doesn't matter to you, just get one and repaint it. Run 'er without noise.

I email trainworld if I could get the prices for steam locos. Looking for a light B&O as they have them locally but if I could save a bit I am all for it. I will assume the web site was www.trainworld.com LMK Joseph

I already have one with proper sound, and don't need another one. I was just passing along the info. I got mine for a much better price - free! Won it in a photo contest in O Scale Trains magazine earlier this year.

To me the sound is the major attraction for this engine. Without sound, it would be just another steam engine.

Wow! I'm not as much into HO (or HO steam, for that matter), but guess I might have to look into getting one.

my guess as to why is that businesses do not have unlimited resources. It is better to dump stock to free up the capital than have inventory that isn't movig. If their fiscal year is the same as the calendar year you can probably expect a sale every year at this time so they can simplfy their accounting for year end.

[#ditto]

Even though when it comes to steam I'm a NYC fan and lean towards the Hudson and Niagara, I have to admit: That T-1 is a real beauty!

PennsyHoosier,

Perhaps in order to keep the wife happy you should buy a couple more of each. That way you can use the old rule of "the more I buy, the more I save."

Just be ready for the shopping trip to end all shopping trips to the mall!!

I asked the guy at Standard Hobby why the price slashing ,and he said it was to reduce inventories at the local hobby shops. BLI has a bunch of new product comming out soon and they want the local shops to be low on inventory ,and order in large quantities. This was according to the salesman at Standard. When I asked about availability of some loco's, most of the numbers I gave him had quantities of 20 to 25 units in stock. Thats alot of money sitting there in store rooms.

I've been trying to bring up Train World's (Trainland) web site all day without success. Are they reconstructing the site?

So, are you getting a T-1? Did you get it already?

Trainworld tried to undercut every other dealer's BLI prices. But only for a few days. I guess they realised they made them too low and repriced BLI stuff again just a few days later.
Last Saturday I recieved an email ftom Trainworld featuring some rediculously prices. Like the "A" for $210, $125 for E units, and $199 for the PRR J1. I wonder who else got a deal before the prices went back up Tuesday?

plumloco,

As far as I know, the BLI AC6000CW hasn't been released. Nor is the UP MT-73 4-8-2 (which they announced last January!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

The MT-73 would look alot better if the air compressors were both mounted on the nose and some of the pipingwas changed. So it looks like a mini 9000. Thats the only way to make it look cool! [:p]
