Earthquake Damage Report: Only minor damage to layout
Posted by Lone Wolf and Santa Fe on Wednesday, December 30, 2015 2:30 AM

Earthquake Damage Report:

4.4 magnitude earthquake at the base of Cajon Pass, plus a serious aftershock.

No serious damage at my house, just a few things knocked off of shelves. For the miniature people on my layout it’s a little different story. Here is the news report. lol

84 people fell down during this evening’s earthquake and aftershocks. No serious injuries were reported. Also knocked off of their feet were 3 donkeys, 2 deer, a cow, and a horse who’s rider was thrown during the shaking and landed straddling a fence. The shaking was felt around the entire layout.

2 background buildings fell onto railroad sidings and had to be removed and stood back up along with 2 walls, and 3 fences. 4 signs, 2 lampposts, 2 PA speakers and a barbeque grill were also knocked over. 5 motorcycles and 3 cars were also bounced around with one motorcycle ending up on the floor. 4 trees also toppled over.

Rail service will resume as soon as all tracks have been inspected and cleared. No derailments have yet been reported. Cool

Great to read that nothing major happened.  Thanks for the detailed report.  Pls continue to be safe in this earthquake-prone part of the country.

Fortunately for my layout, we barely felt this foot massager in Fullerton.  Certainly less shaking than the 2014 La Habra quake that knocked over most of my rolling stock.  Good reminder not to leave anything parked on tracks near the edge of the layout, though.

The 6.9 didn't even bother my stuff, now that was a quake.

This was the biggest that I’ve felt in a long time. We were pretty much on top of it. It and the aftershocks knocked more things over than any other quake I've felt. The Landers/Big Bear double quakes were stronger but we didn’t feel it as much, but those two made giant waves in the swimming pool.

p.s. The horseback rider made me laugh.

lol. I almost didn't get the joke because our chairs always look like that or worse because of the wind. Right now they are all up againsts the fence like tumble weeds.

Wind? When my parents lived in PA we would suspect the BEAR!

Lion, my daughter did not just suspect a bear, she had three bear cubs and a mother bear in her yard this past week.  Last year the mother bear denned under daughter's porch until the DNR relocated her.  Bear came back with family and denned under neighbor's deck this year.

Daughter's poor 12 year old airedale tangled with one of the cubs and ended up with a swollen ear. The old dog has arthritis and can hardly get around so was not much of a match for the bear cub.  All this happened in the western Maryland highlands close to Deep Creek Lake.

Picture is from daughter's cabin window.
