The number of Canadian layouts you see in MR is partially dependent on the submissions received. N scalers in the British Columbia area are more likely to submit to both N scale mags as they are both just a short jaunt down the road from where I sit (in North Vancouver). Both N scale mags are dependent on submissions from the Vancouver area since communications is so easy back and forth.

For example, if I want to submit to one of them, I could always approach Brian Morgan for assistance in what to do since he has submit so many articles to one of the mags (as well as MR). And as some one has already said, in Canada we have our own mag. I'm not sure how on the ball they are. I was approached by one of the chaps from it to help them out writing up some layouts in the Vancouver area for them. When I responded to the email that I would do it, no one got back to me so I wasn't impressed with them.

There are at least three chaps here in Vancouver in HO that I know plan to submit articles to MR in the near, medium and far future that I know of and I plan to help in their photographic and possibly CAD illustrations for them.

Did CP own them?

Painting them Candy Apple Red with the Pac-ManLogo (What is it officially called?)would look really cool.

I know there was a point in time where the CP was criticly short on motive power and they snatched it up where ever they could find it.

the locomotives are ones that most railroads didn't own such as U30B and U36B, also i model the 1970's so CN hasn's taken over IC or WC yet!!
derailment? what derailment? All reports of derailments are lies. Their are no derailments within a hundreed miles of here.

In the past year I've seen CP, CN, WC, SSW, SP, UP, BNSF, ATSF, BN, CSX, CR, LMSX, FURX, CEFX, HLCX and many, many more on NS.

you could look into the RRlines that CN took over such as Wi. Central or Il.Central to see what kind of locos. they had. WC3023
CF7's A perfectly good use for a worn out F unit ! And they are COOL!

Shawn, what model of locomotive is it?

I'm constantly seeing different power lashups on the Kingston Sub.
From UP, CSX, NS, CONRAIL, Ontario Northland, Wisconsin Central & even the Canadian Pacific!
I once saw a GATX unit last year.

Right now I'm looking for a GP40 so that I can "paint" it so that it looks like 4655 that CP has right now, which is still in Guilford/B&M paint!

Gordon

Brought to you by the letters C.P.R. as well as D&H!

 K1a - all the way

Hi Shaun [:)]

The lease idea is not a bad one. Also consider this . . . many railroad have run throughs with THEIR engines going on into another railroads territory. Here N S and CSX both have trackage rights on UP. So I see both NS and CSX power on UP trackage. I have been thinking about sending you a photo I took of CN power here in North Little Rock [:0] . I was able to snap that photo during a bus tour of the N L R, UP yard during their open house.

Some railroads use to have (still might) agreements with one or more railroads on a "shared train" with each railroad providing power. I read an article once about UP, Frisco, and SCL all providing one loco each for a train that ran through each of their territories.

Today it is not uncommon to see "other" power on a railroad.

AND since it is your railroad, you can use one of the ideas already suggested or paint the loco into a CN scheme. Just because CN didn't buy the loco in real life doesn't mean you can't run it with a CN scheme on your layout. [;)] [:)]

Soctt has a good idea. You could also check out this sight http://railamerica.com/ as they run several shortlines throughout Canada. CBNS has quite a wide range of power ranging from GP9's, Alco Centuries and so forth.

You could also go freelance. This way, the sky's the limit.

I don't know if I agree with your statement regarding Canadian coverage as there seems to be some Canadiana from time to time. Canadian Model Railroader, though not as flashy as MR is also an alternative, as Bob has suggested.

The August edition has an excellent article on how to make trees from Sedum. It also has the plans for a GTW k-4a Pacific.

Regards
Fergie

PS It's nice to see you back as it seems to have been awhile.

For "other" locos try the internet for railroad motive leasing companies, I was in the shops of C.P.R. heavy hauling division in Moose Jaw, Sask. last year, talk about a LOT of locomotives, amongst the C.P.R. locos were a mixed bag of engines in various paint schemes and lettering, none that I knew, they were black, maroon, grey, blue and other various colors and types, Canada has the same population as California and this forum was originated in the U.S. hence the proportion of Canadian news, Actually there is more Canuck news here than I would expect. so all you Hosers out there, I think we are pretty well represented-- eh?

You could always paint them in CN and keep them as a "what if" thing. Or, yeah, paint them in a different railroad. Then, use them as lease engines, or in transfer or runthroughs. It's model railroading, there is no wrong way to solve a problem.

Do i paint them in another railroads colours and run them as lease power? only problem now is deciding on another railorad. Also dose anyone feel that model railorader dosen't feature enough canadian modeling, it all seems to be you americans (nothing against you all, every model railraod and railroader is great!!) thanks for anyones help[:D][8D][;)]
