On the "Please Keep In Mind List" to Bachmann:
I hope that the handrails, grab irons, and eye bolts will be of a sturdy material and not be EXTREMELY FRAGILE, like the ones used on the Life Like P2K versions.
In spite of my handling them gently, I manged to wind up with broken and/or bent grab irons, handrails and lift rings on 5 of my LL P2K E's. Almost seems that if you sneeze near them, they go "POOF!". Ironically frustrating since they're close to prototype dimensions.
One LL P2K E7 unit that I won on ebay was in excellent condition, except that every lift ring (eye bolt) on the roof was broken!
I'll get around to replacing the grabs and rails with brass wire, but that's certainly going to be a lot of cutting an bending!
For lift rings, the Details West #2206 brass versions are good replacements.

Well, since Bachmann has never made an E unit, and they have been retooling all their diesels, one could expect it to be new from the ground up.
Their parent Kader does not to my knowledge make either the Walthers or BLI versions, so again, likely all new.
Personally, the BLI versions leave me cold as to detail when compared side by side to a Proto2000 version - new or old - especially considereing BLI prices.
Bachmann is showing a retail price of $299.00 with sound, $199.00 without, so street prices will likely be about $200 and $140 respectively.
But until they offer a B unit or undecorated, count me out.

Hopefully it will be in the same price range as Bachmann's GG1. I purchased my sound equipped "G" from MB Klein and (I'd have to look at my receipts), I think I paid around $170. Non-sound versions are much less, depending on the paint scheme.

Visited that forum, but could not find anything on this topic. Can someone provide a link? I've been an E-unit fan since my teen years and am certainly interested.
I've been critical of some of Bachmann's past offerings, yet I'm happy with the Bachmann GG1 that I purchased earlier this year. Solid, heavy runner that's hard to beat for the price. If the new E units are produced in a similar manner, then I'm interested!
There have been plenty of E-units on the market. The Walthers and BLI versions being among the most attractive, well detailed (and expensive). I'm assuming that, perhaps, Bachmann is targeting modelers that are looking for an "affordable" version that has proper body contouring and basic details.
