How many articles or columns in MR start from the discussion groups here?

An optimist sees the light at the end of the tunnel

A realist sees a frieght train

An engineer sees three idiots standing on the tracks stairing blankly in space

Great Q.  I also wonder where does the MR staff get ideas for articles?

A majority of articles and columns are created and submitted by modelers like us, once accepted, they go into an archive for use at a later time. Once the article is chosen (based on trends I would assume) they see print, it could take years.

Model Railroader has an editorial staff.  About the only things they create themselves on company time are columns (product reviews, modeling tips...)  The only articles produced wholly in-house are the ones on project layouts and reports from the major train shows and conventions they attend.

Individual staff members used to write articles, probably on their own time.  I haven't seen many lately.

One of our forumites reported, some time ago, that MR had finally used something he had submitted thirteen years earlier.
