What coupler for IHC passenger cars

The kadee 505 mentioned above is for a heavyweight car (6 wheel truck), use the #508 if your cars are lightweight (4 wheel trucks). I have used both and they work well; just read the instructions carefully for the first couple.

I don't know if you want to consider this, but I had some older Rivarossi cars that I wanted to fit with new couplers. I didn't really care if they were truck or body mounted since I mainly run them at shows once in a while.

I found that McHenry makes some with a long arm that snaps right into the truck. The model number just depends on what you have.

You gave me the perfect solution, thank you and to all others who responded.  I will make a transition car to put behind the locomotive and I'll keep the X2F's on the others because when coupled they couple close and you really can't see the coupler. Plus they stay together.

Although I would not consider anything else than Kadees for my freight cars, I put McHenry long shanked couplers on my IHC passenger cars because I have some tight curves on the layout and couldn't use body mounted couplers for such long cars. 

I didn't have any problem with them.

If you are not going to switch out cars you could use drawbars. Screw one end of the drawbar to one end of a car. On the other end install a screw and cut the head off so it makes a pin to go in a hole in the other end of the drawbar. No sense spending money for kadees.
