I was a newbie and didn't know it takes 24 hours 'quarantine time' - so I posted again when I didn't see it after an hour or so.
You already have this topic going in another thread - why start another one ?

It would be possible to mu a calf with other power if the systems were compatable, can't recall it actually being done but thats not to say you can't. The Athearn calf has some design flaws, the prototypes lacked steps on the A end and is actually a SW7, so what you have is a TR4 which was a cataloged EMD model.

Moo. We used to have cows, but we colsed down our farm. Land is now rented to a neighbor, and he runs cow-calf pairs on it. Moo.
What era are you modeling? I am sure that railroads will have quickly broken up their pears, and could run that calf with anything that they were using. If railroad needed more power, they would buy a bigger locomotive to begin with. The Cow may have gone on down the road for some small switching jobs, while the calf may have stayed in the yard, working with any engine, perhaps pusing cars over the hump yard. Railroads like to match the power they are using with the load that they are pulling so that they do not waste fuel.
Besides, when we raised calfs here, we sold them off every fall, and let the cows make themselves new calfs in the spring time.

I've got a number of Athearn Blue Box SW1500 Calves (powered) - but no Cows.
Would a railroad have used an SW1500 calf as 'helper' for GP-9/SD-9/U33B/FP45/U28C etc -- ?
