this has been pretty regular with BLI, I waited for the 4-12-2 till it was really truly close on delivery when I made my order, same with the Sharknose. Fine with me on the delay, I can push my money plans along and make sure I can buy it.

First, the initial GN S-2 HO steam engines announced by BLI years ago (2006) were brass engines and not the hybrid brass and plastic construction that the current (soon to be released) BLI engines are.

I am pretty certain that is not 100% accurate.  There were originally two BLI offerings.   There was a brass "museum series" and the  normal diecast version.  The brass S-2s were actually delivered by Precision Craft (because they had Loksound decoders) in May of 2007.  I had the opportunity to buy one from Discount Hobby Warehouse discounted to, I believe, $1500.  They had been unable to sell it for MSRP.  I decided not to get it because I had already preordered two of the diecast/plastic ones for $399.  I still regret that decision.

Did you check on the BLI web site? All prior preorders were cancelled since they changed the features and pricing of the model. They have a video of it, so they have at least the preproduction samples in hand.

The original preorder for this was a long time ago, since then they've upgraded to Paragon3 sounds and possible are even incorporating Rolling Thunder in this one. So that's part of it. But also due to the price and relatively limited appeal of this loco, they probably never had enough preorders to justify production.

There certainly is confustion concerning the forthcoming BLI GN S-2 engines.

BLI waited a few years before they officially canceled the all brass engines that were part of the BLI and Percision Scale partnership.

The original all brass were to be priced in the $1,800 range.  That is a lot more than what the Brass Hybrids are priced at, less than half.

Yes I will buy one, but as I mentioned I do not really need anymore GN steamers, but I do want one to examine, and if i am not super impressed I will indeed E-Bay it later.

It has been quite the wait for BLI's S2 locomotive in their Brass Hybrid series.

The last I had heard was that fall, hopefully by Christmas for these engines. I see now that the delivery date has been changed again and it is now Jan. 2016.

I only need or want a few engines for my layout which is mainly Canadian roads plus the Great Northern.  I do have most engines, most in duplicates in brass which I have collected over the years.

When I do come across something newer I will most likely buy some. BLI has had the S-2 earmarked for production for years now and I guess the bugs are still being worked out, if they are the cause of the many delays.

Thankfully,. Rapido, with their announcement that they are entering the HO Candian Steam market will not have the huge delays BLI has experienced over the years.

So, are there many members of this forum waiting for their BLI S-2 engines. I had initially ordered four, but with all of the delays will opt for just one now. I have just about lost total interest in acquiring this locomotive, but after waiting so long am curious to see what BLI finally delivers.

Once I have checked it out, will likely e-bay it.

so you ordered 4 because you wanted them and now you will take only one ( screwing your dealer ) and you will sell that. What a wiener!

Just because they are late delivering you don't like them anymore. Welcome to today's  manufacturing climate, either deal with it or collect something else.

Do you realize how small these importers are?

I just don't get it.

Calm down,

FYI, I had ordered four of these engines when they first were announced.  It was my dealer who contacted me with the news that BLI had cancelled their production run. No dealer was screwed, it was only the customers who waited so long.

It was only when BLI announced last year that they would again produce the GN S-2 that I again ordered one of the GN S-2. I ordered mine through the same dealer I always use for BLI products.

It will be interesting to see how the BLI engines compare to my various PFM and Oriental brass engines.  I was lucky enough to obtain a few Professionally painted and factory painted engines from a large estate sale of HO GN steam engines.

Sometimes the "preorder" deal works in our favor.

I had ordered the Baldwin RF16 Sharks when they were first announced, back when Precision Scale was part of Broadway Limited. Well over five years later they finally showed up and my original order was still valid, at around $50 less, each, than the going street price.

Seems to me the wait for the streamlined New York Central Hudson was dragged on for several years, too.

BLI has been getting better lately. I hope you have your engines soon! Ed

Yes.  I have two on order (winter and non-winter cabs).  I had quite the interesting discussion with them at Trainfest, whether they would honor the original cost for the engine or if I/we had to pay the new cost.  I didn't get a good answer.  Lots of umms, ahhs, wells, etc.
