Well, there goes any extra cash I scraped up right down the toilet...literally!
My septic tank (rural residence) just took a crap of its own and the guys installing it just gave me the bill...$3,546.83.[V]

Just thought I had to air my frustration!! Really though I guess a good working sewer system should go before my trains, especially if I want the wife happy huh[:D]
Sure beats turds floating around the bathtub, but I was just getting ready to make some hefty train additions. I'm sure you know the feeling[:)]

Well, since I didn't bring this up, I will comment. What specifically did they tell you was wrong to get your money? Septic systems do not "go bad" unless the tank breaks, which is very unusual, or someone put the wrong stuff down the drain. And, the tank and septic field piping can be cleaned for a lot less money.
My daughter lives in the same house my mother did, and before that my grandmother, and before that my great grandfather. Original septic system. Tank gets cleaned about every 5 years, and a tree root got to one drain pipe once.

To answer Phil's question: We share in the good times and we comiserate with the bad. This will definately dig into the Train Fund. This time two years ago I was replacing the water heater.

Your house is now more "saleable." We bought a house 4 years ago. Main thing was the septic had just been redone--large enough to handle a large family.

Sorry to hear this for you as it sets your model railroading back a couple of steps.

Jamie, if I may be so bold, some have had issues with non related MR stuff being posted on the Forum. So that's why BB4005 introduced the Coffee Shop. Though we talk about trains we also talk about any and everything that may come up. It's a great place to comiserate, have a laugh, do a blanket party or what ever. I don't know if you've dropped in before but as always and like everyone else your more then welcome to drop in, though the Newby always has to buy a "round".[:D] That or do a song and dance for the rest of us.

PS is that a maple or a Poplar to the right of the hole? Poplars are deadly on septic, sewer, weeping tiles and foundations. They will actually rap there roots around pipes and cru***hem to get at the moisture, they will also go through foundations. I convinced one of my neighbors to get rid of theirs.
