Hi,
I subscribe to Model Railroader here in the uk.
Thanks for a great magazine that keeps getting better...
The uk magazines are improving but no where near as good as MR..........
I am making a trip to NY over Christmas and would like to visit as many N Scale Model Shops as possible...
I have looked on www.greatesthobby.com and general web searches and found the following..
Manhattan Trains 14W 45th St NY.
Stuyvesant Trains & Hobbies 345 West 14th 8th St NY.
Are there any others that could be reccommended?
Many Thanks in advance.
Rob

Hmm, wasn't the Red Caboose once on the 4th Floor (and you took a funky elevator up there, and the aisles were jammed-packed with stuff, and there was the cat roaming around - well, maybe they have a new cat now) - I sometimes went there during the late 1980s. Across the street (also in the basement) was Manhattan Trains (or whatever they were called - they had the front store display windows, and then you went down the stairs to the store - this also had a lot of interesting stuff.
A decade or more ago I would have suggested America's Hobby Center (once reknown for their two page ads in Model Railroader advertising all kinds of stuff, usually at decent enough prices - but they moved to a block south of Penn Station (263 w 30th Street), and when I visited there early this year they seemed to be just an average storefront hobby shop - perhaps their Jersey store is better stocked, like their old store on 22nd [?] St - that had tons of great stuff. Their website's link to their N scale stuff doesn't seem to work right :

yes the red caboose was on the forth floor of 14w45 st. funky elevator and a nasty cat. the store across the street was called the train shop ltd in the basement. now it is the red caboose they still have a display in the window. the store is still jampacked just like it was in the other building. he charges more for items bought in the store and was tacking on extra if you used a credit card. i think 3 percent then.
