Exactrail website

What did they do? They have a new website, and its absolutley hobbible!

You used to be able to select the type of cars, railroads, etc. on the left side. Now thats gone, and all you can do is browse through thousands of pages of models, all randomly placed, nothing is orginized.

Bad move, worse website ever now!

Edit: Well shoot, I did finally find a way to list cars by type. But still very confusing. When they had that on left side column to select, it was easier.

I find that many sites are being redesigned (including MR) to cater to the smart phone crowd. I use Netflix frequently and they redesigned ther site a few months ago. I called and voiced my displeasure and they thanked me for my opinion. A lot of good that did Confused

I'm dismayed that now I finally have a gorgeous, big, wide screen flat monitor and now most sites, and videos for that matter, have large areas of wasted space on either side.

Some time ago folks were complaining about "letterboxed" movies where the wide ratio didn't fit the 4:3 screens, now just the opposite thing is happening. It's called pillarboxing and it is the result of people making videos with their phones upright instead of bothering to turn them 90° which would require both thought AND effort.

The techno-wizards never seem to be able to get it together.

Yep, nobody even uses a PC anymore! They all use their phones, tablets, etc. Very annoying. I'm old skool, in the sense that a PC/Laptop with a big screen is the best.

The only thing I use my phone for is making phone calls. When people send me text messges, I reply with "just call me!"

I was caught off guard early last summer when I first noticed the website re-design - I think it was early June.  At first the real-time listing of quantities in-stock wree missing but were added in time.  I had to re-create a new account because the old ones weren't ported over.  My first order on the new site was for 4 new beer box cars which were on special.  I've finally gotten used to it now - it is faster than the old site.

We use Go Daddy for our business website. They offer a design for computers (*.com or something else) and another version for mobile (*.mobi), if you want to use it. Seems like the big guys would do the same to satisfy both groups of customers. Maybe that would be too difficult for a webmaster to keep track of. (snark snark!)

I'm the, same.  I take abuse from friends, but if it's important enough for you to send a text, it's important enough for you to call me.

Anyway, I guess this is just another example of "progress" that replaces good with mediocre.

Same here.. A text will go unanswered..A phone call or message from a missed call  will be answered.

To my mind sending  a text is lifeless and IMHO shouldn't be used between family and friends.

Now your are taking the mickey, as the British would say.  A major company like ExactRail would not go from good to medocre.  They are smart and a business and would make a move that would be overall better.

Look, I'm like many, I get used to something and get it down cold so that I get very comfortable with it.  When software changes, I don't like it either - I get it.  But I think it's silly to say the change was from good to medrocre just because it upset your schwartz.  Like I said, ER wouldn't have made the change unless it was an over all improvement and step-up.

Whistling

Well I for one will continue to use my PC, both at home and at work.  I hate trying to read the small print that comes over the I-phone. The texting is fine, but for internet stuff the I-phone gets parked.

Finding stuff takes a little more effort but checkout is easier and faster and your cart page actually has a thumbnail of each model you ordered. If you miss the old site you can sort by newest-oldest release on the home page.

Mine doesn't move.......it's at the station!!!

Interestingly they are still being made. I much prefer the 27 inch screen of my mac to the screen of my Iphone. And for even more fun the Mac connects to my 50 inch sony bravia even better still. Add the benefit of some Bose speakers and a very good option.

Trying to use the mini screen on your phone makes no sense to me for doing anything like purchasing items or browsing a manufacturers website, might be ok for z scale you could get those life size.

Oh of course they are still being made, but all you have to do is read the news - HP is reducing their force by over 30 thousand workers and the official reason is PC sales are down - dunno about Apples as they are foreign to me.  Ever notice how everyone everywhere you go has their head bent and their "precious" in their hand stroking it lovingly?  When I commute home from work in the DC area, I see people fondling their phones in their cars ALL the time, endangering their fellow drivers by not paying full attention to the road.  Sure, I prefer computers to smart phones any day of the week, but the trend is obviously there so all companies are bending to the trends and going smart phone friendly.  Not that I like it either ...
