Dremel Recall
Posted by richhotrain on Sunday, November 8, 2015 5:27 AM

Just read where some Dremel models are being recalled as a potential burn hazard.

it is specifically the Micro Model 8050 Rotary Tool, subject to only some date codes.

Good stuff to know.. Thanks Rich!

No worries here though,my Dremel is nearing 22 years old and my cordless is nearing 8 years old.

My Dremel bought in the early 1980's is still working although I did have to send it back for repairs once around 1986 when something popped inside - Dremel repaired it free of charge and it's been working like a champ ever since.  I bought a second later model a couple years ago NIB at a train show (1990's model from the looks of it) and the shaft broke after 6 months of light usage.  Guess the newer ones aren't built like the older ones.

Mine had to go back.  We are lucky, as the Dremel factory store is in Racin, WI., so, the wife took it in.  She also took back one from the podiatrist practice that she works for.  Once the replacement models came in, it was an easy exchange.

That's pretty much true of anything we buy nowadays. Years ago, I bought a 2006 Dodge Charger R/T.. within weeks of buying it (the headliner started to fall down (plastic fastener didn't grab anymore), the piping at the edge of the rear seat, started falling off.

I bought the top-of-the-line Dremel way back in 1973. I think it was a 260 or 280 or something. It's worked flawlessly ever since which kind of makes me mad as I'd really like to have one with a speed control built in! I bought the tool as the whole kit and I think it was $19.95 at the time in the Memphis Navy Exchange. I definitely have gotten my money's worth and I'm very impressed with Dremel. I understand they have a great repair service and still stand behind all their products. Pretty rare in these times!

These the ones that had the power cord pull out of the base?
