appreciate everyone's responses. I ended up spraying it with a light flat grey paint from a can. Not very good at it as there were some drops. So I took very fine sandpaper and rubbed the whole model vertically and the result is nice.
It's worth noting the "western" flood loader from Walthers represents a concrete silo as opposed to the kit representing a steel structure. All the prototypes I've seen of the former are plain concrete color, while the conveyors and other metal parts vary. White, gray and tan are common for the metal siding material and towers, and the conveyors often match but are sometimes black or another dark color.

I painted mine a forest green. You could also go w/ blue or gray. Perhaps using Google maps or Bing to check find other real coal loaders.
Those are the eastern flood loaders you posted pics of?
They should be concrete color. I based mine off the Henderson Mine in Colorado.
And here's mine...

I am building the Walthers kit western coal flood loader. I need to paint it and need some idea as to what the color of them is. I have used Google images to determine the color but there are few pictures of them.
Any ideas?
