The owner of a local logging layout gets his logs from real trees and shrubs. Cut off a branch that is a diameter that works for your scale and cut it up in appropriate scale lengths. Green branches might not have enough texture but they seem to gain texture as they dry out. Specific species of shrubs and trees might also work/look better than others. Use your imagination.

Thanks very much FRRYKid. That was it. Bought it! Funny as I'd searched eBay a few days ago and evidently the wording I used to search for it was not the right combination.
I don't know if you use eBay at all (My favorite Internet Hobby Shop), but I did a quick search and found this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/walthers-ho-scale-package-of-20-logs-no-1031-for-train-set-/281790407822?hash=item419c04648e
I think this might be what your looking for.
newusername Anyone know of a hobby shop that may have a package of these on the shelf? They come 30 to package. Walthers website shows not currently available and they have been on backorder for quite a while. Thanks for any help!
