In January, MTH will announce that it is suing every HO manufacturer in the northern hemisphere. A team of twenty lawyers will rub their hands in glee and throw a celebration party in expectation of money to be made. In February, MTH will announce that litigation against HO manufacturers is going so well that they have decided to sue every HO manufacturer in the southern hemisphere. A bigger party will be held by thirty firms of lawyers worldwide. Bittany Spears will get divorced for the second time and then immediately marries the guy who held the door open for her at the divorce court. In March, MTH will sue every O, N and Z manufacturer in the known world. They also decide to sue all the Union Pacific for making full scale models of their models with sound. UP suggest some form of licensing agreement. In April an unkown band makes the headlines by getting to number one with a song with fantastic words, great music, played brilliantly by talented musicians that doesn't have a buh, buh, buh, buh... background beat. Brittany Spears sues for divorce. In April, after licensing talks fail with UP, MTH sues all railroads that exist in every country in the world, all countries that used to have railroads and all countries that are thinking about having railroads. In May, it is rumoured that MTH will sue everyone that has a model railroad that does not use MTH trains. The rumour started at a party thrown by lawyers to think of who else to sue that MTH has not yet sued. In June, MTH sues everyone who does not use MTH trains and everyone who thinks in N scale. Brittany Spears sues Model Railroader for allowing a thread that predicts her future without her permission. In July, NASA announces that Voyager 23 has finally reached the outskirts of a Pluto. Data appears to indicate that life may exist on the far flung planet. In August, MTH sue everyone in the world with a surname between the letters A and M just in case they might get into the World's Gretest Hobby. In August, MTH are awarded $677,893,782,894,142.99 in their case against every country in the world that has railroads. (The case against those countries that MAY have railroads is still pending.) The lawyers throw a very large party and buy each other train sets. In September, NASA confirms life on Pluto. MTH sues the population of Pluto. MTH sues the the lawyers for owning train sets on which no license fee has been paid, manufacturers are sued for supplying the lawyers with the train sets without permission. In October, all the lawyers in the world sue each other. In November, MTH sues everyone with a surname between N and Z. In December, a small guy starts a small company making models of trains and sells them to people who want to enjoy running trains. The word hobby is used again. And everyone turns their backs on the craziness. Have a good year!
Barry
(By the way... if anyone copies this thread without a license to do so.... I'll sue!)

Here is my wish/Predictions! All manufactures will go in a 'All out battle for the best'! They will produce all Cab-Forwards that were ever created and massively produce them like F units! In all scales! Union Pacific needed to release Southern Pacific Co and it's trackage rights due to a "Typo Glitch Error" in it's merger Contracts! 2006 all railroads that were swallowed up by UP also followed suit on the same contract and won! 2007 UP is now a small RR that runs in all parks and zoo's. (just kidding UP fans! I like UP!) N-Scale manfactures will finally discontinue that 'Horn Hook device' they call a coupler!

I also predict the BLI AC-4/5 will win 2004 product of the year, and HO loco of the year.

Some predictions that seem to be true:

1) Bachmann will produce DCC equipped locos, at a price similar to Atlas, to go with their new DCC system. Discounts will bring that price down. Not as good as a Kato?
2) MDC/Athearn will make a new line of blue box ready to run equipment. Athearn will help convert Nscale to screw mount trucks. A second screw-mount will permit easy coupler conversion.
3) Kato will produce the Super Chief to follow the CZ. Eastern modelers get some F's.

One prototype item: The Music City Star will make it's first commuter run next October 15, 2005. The Opry will be 80yrs old. Little Jimmy Dickens will be the first Music City Star to "operate" the train. Since he's too short to see out the window, the train will crash into the new downtown station.

The Titans will meet the Bears in the Super Bowl. (2006)
THe Cubs will play the RedSox in the World Series. Bosox win again.
Hockey season will begin when the ice melts.

Actually, with the new Lenz Set-LI with Loco CE from Kam Industries, a cell phone / wireless network enabled personal digital assistant combination could be used as a throttle. Unfortunately, these phone/PDAs are still in the $500 range.[:(] That price will drop fast like every other new electronic device.[:)]

1. Walthers will team up with a fantastic never-before heard of manufacturer that will offer rtr models of Pennsy MP-54's, South Shore Line interurbans, generic Niles wood coaches and combines and since they will be exclusively distributed by Walthers, you'll never be able to buy them, just drool at the "reference book" because they'll be out of stock like everything else.
2. Sam Posey will be the next NMRA President.
3. In a bold move, David Barrow will thrust forward with his minimalist modelling and convert his "layout" to BRIO trains.

very amusing replies![:D]

Here's a few more from me:

1. MTH loses all the lawsuits it filed, HO and O modelers will boycott MTH, the company goes bankrupt, then is bought out and liquefied by all mfg.ers!

Yessss![;)]

2. BLI moves their production to Germany, and produces a large amount of CB&Q, Rock Island, and Milwaukee Road steamers. (Wishful thinking but we can dream...)

3. manufacturers start putting straight-AC motors in their locos, making DCC simpler yet.

4. MR's January issue will be a full tribute to the CB&Q, celebrating their 150th anniversary. (Reading this, Terry Thompson?[:D])

My predictions?

DCC and sound prices will continue to drop and get smaller in size.
The merger between Stewart and Bowser will result in Bowser locomotives being more widely distributed those lowering their prices.
BLI will move towards the smaller steamers for HO. 2-8-0, 4-6-0 etc.
On30 will continue to increase in popularity. Athearn or Roundhouse will test the water with some On30 rolling stock and Atlas will produce On30 track.

Year end 2004 prediction?

On Christmas Eve Mike Wolfe will be visited by three ghosts and upon awakening will give the DCC/Sound manufacturers a phone call and say "hey if we share technology we all can sell more products at a lower price to the modeler!" and then he'll call Lionel and say "hey Lionel, let's talk about our problems and see if we can work out a better deal for everyone."

My 2005 wish?

Life Like Proto introduces some MP54's in their P1K line.

MTH will suddenly see the light of day and come out with a UP Challenger in HO that will sit on the hobby-store racks until they rot because the market is flooded with the things.
Walthers will come out with a tall steel viaduct that doesn't take thirty hours to build.
BLI will release both a Platinum Missabe M-4 and SPAC-9 2-8-8-4, PLUS a Rio Grande L-131 2-8-8-2. And will promise a Rio Grande F-81 2-10-2 for the coming year. BLI will also stop pushing back release dates.
Athearn will offer new and improved 'old' metal reefer kits as 'craftsman models.'
AggoJones will not die, however he will be seriously injured in a scuffle with another model railroader (me) in an attempt to buy out BLI's complete stock of M-4's.

In the year 2005:

Stuck-up proto nitpickers, proto paperhangers, and other members of the Train Taliban will bump their heads on the benchwork, see the light, and start having fun playing with their trains...and encouraging others to do so as well.

God Bless Sam Posey!

IRON I don't know about the collapse of the HO train market. I think thats a little far fetched, but I wouldn't mind seeing NCE lower the cost. I just might have to make the move from DC then. I look for the year 2005 to be another year of cost increases which will keep some from entering this hobby.

MTH withdraw all suits, people give their products a chance, MTH suceeds in HO by making a series of small steamers.

Trix announces dicast SP AC-12 with sound.

N scale becomes more popular than HO.

HO steam manufactures all lower prices to reach of common man.

Shortly after Aggro Jones's death, BLI announces Platinum series DM&IR M-4.

IHC gets bought out.

"The Coffee Shop" thread will surpass over 7000 posts.

MRR will seek a price increase.

you'll be able to operate your DCC with your cell phone.
