MSRP...$500. Yeah right! Even 300-350 street price...that's more than my car payment. Maybe I'll get one when I hit on Megabucks in one of my area casinos. Oh that's right, I don't gamble with my money, just my life when I drive to work.

If I remember correctly, the MSRP of the H10 2-8-0 was also $499.99 or possibly $ 449.99, while street price was around $330-$350, depending. At $330 to $350, for the L1, I'm in, if the street price is higher, I'm out.
My primary interest is the late PRR/Early PC era, 1966 -1970. PRR steam was gone by 1957, but, I remember them from my youth, and enjoy watching them on my layout, so every now and then I retro to the 1956-1957 era.

New reality is that modern plastic has taken on much of the characteristics of the brass market. Pre-order, pretty darned decent details, robust prices, and you'll get 'em when we darned well say you're gonna get 'em.
When I first joined this forum as a very green newbie ten years ago last month, steam had a lot of discussion, and BLI was big, with the contentious MTH getting increasing discussion, but rarely in a congratulatory way. Now, when a new steamer is offered, there is very little excitement. I think it might be (might be) the phenomenon that I felt would take place in my early contributions about the hobby's future; steam interest will/must fade over time, just like the asymptotes of a curve of a standard normal distribution (bell curve with tails on either side where the density at and below the curve approaches "zero." I find it hard to believe that steam will die off entirely, but, it will recede....it has to.
Anyway, don't want to prattle on or be gloomy...just observing that, after nearly two days posted, I have contributed the fifth post about a brand new loco of which the vaunted Pennsy had hundreds. Ten years ago, we'd be well into the second page or further.
You can easily find a PFM/United brass L-1 sometimes with DCC and paint for considerably less. These were great runners and hold thier value....die cast/plastic?????

July, eh? We will see. I'm happy to hear they are doing the L1. 3#s each pre WW2, and Modern. Looks like I'll bite the bullet and order one. Meanwhile, I'm hoping for a G5 4-6-0, sooner than later.
There is also the possibility the Eastern H10 2-8-0 will arrive this month. The Sharks are now pusged back to March.
